Skin Dive Watches

In principle that sounds good, but I have many skin divers with screw down crowns, and some watches with bidirectional bezels that are clearly professional divers by any measure (military issue dive watch, 1000m depth rating, etc.). I think the boundaries are pretty blurry.

I'm not saying it's a hard and fast rule - just what seems to be most common. The skin divers tended to be cheaper watches bought on vacation (most with economy movements) and a bit smaller.

As for Supercompressor watches, those didn't have screw-down crowns but they did have other water-resistant features - a skin diver generally just relies on its seals.

This is the insert you'll be looking for.

What do you mean "Tudor" dial with yours?

Sadly no, that's not the bezel for my model. And there are two version for my model making it even more difficult. There's the one piece style like Ludi posted above, and a two-piece like mine with an actual insert separate from the ring. This is what i need:

And I mean Tudor dial because of the the 9050 style points this version takes (hands especially). (EDIT: Or I could have said the Longines Nautilus I suppose)

I think you're on the right track. What about these two? Not super compressors and not 1000m, yet both feel like professional divers to me, with no decompression bezels. I definitely think the Doxa is a professional diver, given its history. And obviously some of the later Super Kontiki watches were military issued (IDF) dive watches. I think any military issued dive watch is definitely in the professional category, like the Benrus 50717 types.

Those for sure fall into the not-skin-diver category. The look comes into play more. Like I said, a Rolex 5513 is rated for "only" 200m, but no one is putting that into a skin diver category (I don't think, at least)

Nice one. I have one of these that is not nearly that nice but is a pretty good beater and I really like it.

Yup, while similar they are actually different models as I understand the invincible was the higher end model and used a Swiss movement while mine is a no name model that uses a German PUW.

Thats interesting, you can get so many subtle differences between what on the surface which looks to be identical (except in this case for the invincible label) watches.
I have some of the PUW movements and their design and finish is superb, (well in the ones I have) the only perception difference I suspect is in the amount of letters ie 5 for Swiss and 7 for Germany lol.

Really nice watch by the way, would look good in my collection!

Here are some French skin divers that all have the same case (except for the Le Jour). They are all SS and say tested to 20 ATM. The autos have A. Schild 1901s and the Le Forban has a French hand wound movement.

Le Forban: I think these were marine nationale issued

BAC: Batalion Anti-Crime?

Chanor Besançon

A cheap Le Jour

It's a one piece unfortunately, and already going out of the range where it should be:
