I, as usual have no idea what so ever, what you are saying.

There's nothing funky going on here - a talented guy has gone off to set up his own business.

I have never been worried about talented people, but problem is that some do.

That's a shame but must be good reasons behind it?

I'm not sure why a talented person setting up their own business, doing what they love, is anything but fantastic?

Tony and Simon were a great team and looked happy working together so from a personal point of its a shame that it couldn't continue but as I said there must be a good reason behind it which means its better they do there own thing.

Let's put a lid on this conspiracy theory nonsense right now.

Simon had an opportunity to fulfil a dream and set up his own watchmakers, and he's taken it.

That doesn't mean there's been a falling out, or that anyone has done anything to anyone else.

Unfounded gossip and irresponsible statements like yours do no good to anyone, so unless you have facts to back up what you imply, I'd suggest keeping those thoughts to yourself.

Simon has opened a new business, and that's the story here.

It's exciting.

He's a watch geek like us, and he's spreading his wings and doing something fantastic.

I may come across as excessively firm, but I'm keen not to see something positive, yet again spun into something negative by people on the internet who make up their own facts and narrative.

Cut that shit out.

Simon is not a slave. He's free to live his life and manage his career as are we all. Good luck to him. If STS has their s...t together they will appoint a equally competent lead.

My Ed has only been there for a week as well 馃槵
Yep they have my 105.012 as well. This is a very bad feeling.

Yes I agree. He's a very nice guy and I was really hoping he would be involved with my watch service. For those of us who have watches there at present the timing couldn't be worse.

Oh dear!

Did you stipulate that SF was the only person allowed to touch your watches?

I think you worry about nothing and the elves in the trees find more fishes than the fox can see.

'Fakk my old boots' Jim! That's very poetic for a Tuesday afternoon mate.馃榿
No I didn't stipulate anything specific like that, and as a novice I have no real idea of how the process works in the workshop. It did not enter my head that this was an option. I drove 150 miles to take my watch to STS in person because I wanted to chat to Simon about it. I was never under any illusion that only he would touch it, but for me the attraction to STS was that my service would take place under his oversight. He was the guy that was recommended by the experts on this forum.

He's gone... my watch is sitting at STS... I have no idea what they have in place in the meantime.馃檨

A team of qualified, talented, watchmakers who aren't Simon... 馃槈

I've got watches with them too, I didn't know Simon was setting up on his own, I am not panicking.

There are very few times in life that I would ever advise this... but today... follow my example. 馃槈

I wouldn't worry. STS have probably done more to foster watchmaking in the UK than any other company. They have more than one skilled watchmaker on hand and while Simon will be gone, the culture he instilled in STS will go far beyond tomorrow and the stars.

Thankyou for the reassurance mate... much appreciated and very nicely phrased.馃榾

Good luck to Simon and to STS - both fantastic institutions. For many of us, Simon was the face of STS and you couldn't hope to find a more interested, knowledgeable and delightful person to leave your treasured watch with. On a couple of occasions, I know that I was lucky enough to have him work on one of my watches, but this was the exception rather than the rule and I have always been delighted with the work that the STS team have done. But visiting the place won't seem the same - no matter how much I'm longing to pick up a serviced watch.

Okeey dokeey Chris... Hopefully it will all have a happy ending. I was hoping to time my collection from Southend with one of your 'time for a pint' evenings in London and ask you if I could join you chaps. Be nice to see what you experienced members think of how it cleans up???

I've actually just come off of the phone from STS. Made a cup of tea to calm myself down and then had a chat with Tony (the Director). I feel a lot better now.馃槦 They told me that all of Simon's directions for my service are being followed by the technicians working on my watch. (Thankyou @JimInOz ... you were quite right mate.)馃憤The watch won't be ready for a few weeks yet, but I'm still saving to pay for the service so I'm in no hurry. They are going to e-mail me photographs of the post-service movement so I will post these pictures when they arrive.

Thankyou for the reassurance Chris.馃憤
cheers!
Jonathan.

I have spoken to Simon and it is very exiting news for vintage collectors. It certainly gives me a choice now between two highly competent, but different watchmakers.

I know that my Cal 321's were worked on by another watchmaker at STS and he is still there. Also the Electric watches are and have always been Tony's specialty.

Simon is now independent. He is an Omega Level 3 Watchmaker - that cannot be taken away from him and I am thinking parts will not be a problem for him in the future.

Now the vintage watch community now has choice of two establishments to send our watches.

I am happy to be sending watches to both.

In fact, just today I have

Thankyou William. I feel reassured now.
