That's a bummer @MH82 sounds like the sales team dropped the ball big time by taking a deposit from a walk up, without first giving their wait list a right of first refusal. At my boutique, they started taking names on a list day 1, and then quickly realized it would require deposits to ensure delivery given the demand and limited availability, so they called everyone on the list, in order, and said if you want a Snoopy, get in and get a full deposit down by such-and-such date, otherwise it goes to the next person on the list. They did a good job communicating and setting expectation, which is 90% of the sales game. I wasn't real happy about it, but at least I could make an informed decision.

There is another thread on the forum where a few forum members indicated they were on wait lists at their local AD, but they had not put a deposit down... I expressed concern that when the time came there may or may not be a watch with their name on it...

Probably has something to do with the popularity of the watch and the exclusivity....has there been another Omega watch that got this kind of attention to cause such confusion during the preorder/reservation phase? It just seems like there are no set rules from the posts I read online (first come first serve, deposit, waiting list, lottery?) and that tells me Omega has never dealt with such a situation before.

Just looking forward to how I can be top of a list, in regular contact and then usurped by someone else. 6 months of anticipation down the drain. Even made me go straight to a Rolex dealer straight afterwards......

It seems disingenuous that your dealer didn't at least give you the option to place a deposit down to stay on the top of the list. That being said, why switch watch brands when this is obviously the fault of the dealer? I understand your frustration, but to swear off a brand because of the person selling that brand seems a bit harsh. Of course such actions happen all the time with cars, clothes, shoes, etc. so maybe I'm the one who takes the uncommon tact when dealing with a similar situation.........

I think this is the first time an LE with such high demand was announced after Omega tightened their official sales network, so thus the confusion was born. Once again it seems like the reservation system for Boutiques was quite organized while the same couldn't be said for ADs. Of the three Boutiques I often deal with they all said that a 25% deposit was what they would take with a first come, first on the list basis, and once they knew exactly how many Silver Snoopys they were getting they notified those who were below the cutoff and returned the deposit. Other boutiques were requiring full deposits. However, with ADs the reservation process seemed much more haphazard - some required partial deposits, some required full deposits, others no deposit, but the allotment angle was very opaque. I've heard only 10-15% of the 1970 pieces TOTAL were going to AD's, so that means most AD's never even received a single piece to sell.

Just because I went to the Rolex store doesn't mean there was anything I liked. Just wanted to moan and bent my frustration. Tried a few things on but I generally find they feel quite cheap..... (Realise that's sacrilegious in some quarters)

Well, there is a good side to this story... I think there will be anyway. I expect a whole bunch of Snoopy's to go on the open market immediately after release. Flippers will look to capitalize, and initial prices will probably be more on the "ridiculous" side of the range, but the market will speak, as it always does, and I expect prices to become reasonable in short order. Be patient, you will have many opportunities in the coming months. Look at the Speedyorite, that is one of the most coveted modern LE's, and yet there are still NOS examples popping up here and there a full 5 years after introduction.

I went to my AD and he told me that they are still available with 100% deposit. When I called later that day, they said they were all spoken for, and this was a few weeks ago.

I just discovered this watch. It's too big for my tiny 6.5" wrist, but I want it anyway. My wife would probably divorce me at worst or make me sleep in the basement at best. I still want it.

Have you tried it on? Or a similar sized Speedy, eg a sapphire sandwich? I have exact same size wrist as you and the Moonwatch looks fine on me. The curved and twisted lugs help a lot, whereas for example a Submariner looks too big, as does the full size classic Seamaster (blue dial as worn by James Bond, HRH Prince William).

My experience of ADs in UK was very vague, ie pay £1,000 for a place on list, returnable if I changed my mind or if they didn't get enough allocation, whereas the boutique was very slick - got on wait list for no charge, had a subsequent phone call to ask if I still wanted one as they'd got two more allocated, if so pay full deposit, job done.

I look at it this way - in my line of work Subs are pretty ubiquitous so not regarded as anything special. In 30 years I have NEVER heard anyone comment on anyone else's Rolex, other than a £10k solid gold monster a colleague bought in 1986. The Snoopy however, at a much lower price than the standard no-date Sub, IS special and would be an interesting watch to have.

Your wife may have been a Snoopy fan, mine is, so will love the watch.

Sorry to hear that, and I hope they make it right. Just be glad this isn't run like a Panerai LE, because with that brand and their boutiques, being first in line means....NOTHING. It's all about how many non-LE's you have bought at full price at that specific boutique as the "entry fee" for getting a chance to buy an LE.

I'd be bottom of that list then, have only bought Omega LEs up to this point (ones in runs sub 2000). So I'm perhaps not lining the pockets enough

I like snoopy, but not on a multi thousand dollar watch. It's too much like the plastic cups with the latest action movie on them you get at a fast food joint.

It is often hard to gauge humour and irony in an online post, so forgive me if I'm being too literal, but you know the snoopy isn't a commercial tie-in right? You know the reason behind it and what the snoopy award means? Now as it happens I don't particularly like this watch either, but I appreciate omega's pride in the emblem

Maybe Rolex will come out with a Garfield Submariner...the end of the second hand could be a little piece of lasagna...

ehh got mixed feelings about this..dunno if it would be a nice dress watch under a suit...seems so sporty. could be because of the strap. but then i can't even picture this on a calf or leather strap. guess well see when ppl get theirs and try it on

I don't know... what do you think ?

I'll bet he put 100% deposit down for his wait-list position too....

My AD said he knows of another one who took deposits meanwhile they will no way get that many in, in the first place...

If Rolex-(Insert External Agency of choice)-Garfield relationship was as significant as Omega-NASA-Snoopy then I'm sure they would.

Snoopy the cartoon character was adopted by NASA as a safety mascot in the '60s.
From NASA's website: This (Silver Snoopy Award) is the astronauts' personal award. To qualify for this award, eligible candidates will have made contributions toward enhancing the probability of mission success, or made improvements in design, administrative/technical/production techniques, business systems, flight and/or systems safety or identification and correction or preventive action for errors.

Omega the company was awarded the Silver Snoopy in 1970 in recognition of its contribution to the Space Program, not least of which was getting the Apollo 13 astronauts back home safely - all ancillary electronics in the module were down so they used a Speedmaster to time the engine burn that ensured correct angle of entry to the Earth's atmosphere, too steep and they would have burned up, too shallow and they would have bounced off like a skimming stone on a pond and kept on going until their air ran out.

The watch commemorates this.

I have no connection with NASA or Omega, but I watched it all live on TV as a little kid, saw the film 25 years later, and like the watch.
