Huge fan of these two: the Citizen BL-8000, my suggestion for a first watch.

The second is my favorite ABC watch, the Casio Protrek.

I would nominate my recently bought Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Alarm ref 20779:

Amazing guilloche dial, hour markers, breguet hands, windows for day date, all in blued steel. The finishing of the case is amazing for the price I paid😀

Also what I find amazing for an almost unknown brand, is the work they have done in the movement. This watch has a AS 5008 movement which was produced from 1973 to 1977, had at the most 25 jewels and looked like this:

And this is what they came up:

A very nicely decorated movement with 31 jewels and instant day-date change😀

"Inexpensive" is pretty subjective, especially since the OP's watches have significant collectible value these days. Here are some watches I purchased relatively recently for $200-$600 USD. I think they are all quite nice in their own ways, and certainly they reflect my personal taste just as well as my more expensive pieces.

The Helbros is a beautiful watch. Love it.
