So it is not a franken. Good to hear this. Almost sold it cheap to a friend.
Yup known and acceptable. The luminova change over was 1999, the 1861 was a few years earlier.

Fun fact the 18th jewel appeared in the 861 around 1989 and was marked 17 jewels for a few years. While there are still some sources that claim the 18th jewel started with the 1861.

My watch maker changed an outer ring so that the absence of the dust cover will not create free play for the movement. Not a simple diy job and cost me some money.

Could you elaborate more on changing the outer right? I used to consider a clear case back for my 321's, but wasn't sure how the movement will hold without a dust cover putting in place. Nice pair of Speedies by the way. Thank you.

Bored at home and decided to share 2 of my precious Speedmasters.

Firstly, a watch that took me a long time to find locally. A 145.012-67 Speedmaster. It's original caseback and 1039 bracelet are carefully stored away...

Next up is an unique Speedmaster to me. With Tritium dial but modern 1863 movement. Some friends commented this new movement should not exist in a Tritium dial Speedmaster. But i love the 'Yin-Yang' look anyway. Any thoughts friends?

Finally, a group photo.

I'm totally jealous! Congrats!

That is something new. Appreciate the information.

I think the correct term is enlargement ring. I am not sure if the movement needs to be out before it can be swapped. This new ring is thicker so that it fills the gap left by the dust cover.

The other option is go for a 3rd party crystal caseback. These do not require the swapping of enlargement rings. As they are custom built for this purpose and much much cheaper.

Maybe our guru Archer can chime in...

That makes sense, thanks!

That DON bezel is insane! Why did you opt for a glassback case?

I hope to see the movement once in a while... maybe i should just put back the dust cover and caseback. Buy myself a caseback opener and then open it whenever i have the urge.

Can someone point me to a good speedmaster caseback opener which fits properly and will not leave scratches? Thanks.

A few more old photos from my archive...
