·With all recent scam posts, I thought I'd share a recent experience I had on Ebay. I purchased a Seiko 6139 from a seller in Argentina, wattches.ar. He describes himself as a watchmaker and collector, and had 98% positive feedback. I felt that I was likely safe in buying from him. The watch was described as fully functional and original, but in need of a cleaning.
When the watch arrived I found that the inner bezel did not rotate, the chrono would not reset properly, and that it would sometimes stop. I posted it here and several members pointed out that it had an incorrect crown.
Thinking that a service would sort it, I sent it to my regular watch maker who said that it was cobbled together, that the stem and crown were both incorrect for the watch, and that the movement was damaged.
I contacted the seller, and he agreed to take it back. He has had the watch now for quite some time and has not issued a refund. Enough time has elapsed that there is no recourse through ebay or paypal. I do not have the watch nor the money I spent on it. Caveat emptor.
