Hi there, just seeing this part of the thread - so happy to oblige: newbie here, but definitely on the "sister" end of the spectrum. And I already posted my Seikos, somewhere up there.
Cheers and happy new year to all,
    Sylvie

Sure did! In the thread "best watches purchased in 2015", my Omega issued RAF 1942 6B/159 watch.
    Here's another (lady special) version....

But I really dig my Seikos too!
    Thanks for the warm welcome.

Beautiful watch and from an era right up my alley!
I love prewar, may I ask how you got started/interested in vintage as opposed to the "fashion" watches?

I was looking to get a nice watch strap and came across this website:
    http://www.abpparis.com/photos/Straps-watchbands_ga87826.html

And stumbled on their gallery of straps, with tons of Panerais but also things like this.... (all from their website)

I admire fine craftwork and when such straps are matched with such watches, craft almost becomes an art.
(and PS I had no prior connection with them, obviously).

Totally agree except for the "almost".
I don't often wear a watch but can't take my eyes off of them.

    That JLC is like pornography.

You may be hooked, I have been for a few years!

I bought my first Seiko a month or two ago. I'm am really impressed by the quality / look & feel. Keeps me wondering; is - let's say a Submariner - worth 36 times the money of a Seiko?

Agree it's quite captivating, as a matter of fact, I ended up emulating the look with a completely different watch.
Which goes to show the NATO with gold hardware also goes a long way.... (sorry for the lousy I Phone pic)

Wow -- how do you get into this hobby and not wear a watch?
(PS - apologies to Seiko fans for the diversion).

That green strap must look fantastic with that Seiko (or with the Speedy for that matter).

Last diversion or "hijack" before people get bored, it actually ties in with the art comparison earlier.

I seldom need another means of telling time.

I wear a watch as a participation in my interests, my hobby, my art.
The watches I wear take up some of my attention and my focus.
When I decide to wear a watch it is like going to an event and doesn't always work if I have other plans.

If it's not something special, why bother?

    Bad answer but truthful.

Nope....that's Rolex's secret! Get people to pay a bazillion dollars for a really well finished Seiko.

Well...I'm not sure how the green looks on either one...but it's worth the old college try. :D

Randall is very accommodating. I emailed him about a 6217 (62 Mas) I was considering to get and he replied right away.

Knuckleheads at work: "Hey, Mad Dog...what did you do on your days off?"

Mad Dog: "Took pictures of my Seiko 6309-7049."

    Knuckleheads at work:

Cool beans...he's an excellent communicator...you never have to play the 'I wonder what's going on with my watch' game with Randall...he continually keeps you in the loop.
