Hi guys,

I’m new into Seiko and was recently offered this bad boy. Asking price is USD 600

I’m looking for advice whether the dial and hands are original. I’m pretty sure the crown isn’t the correct one. That’s the only photo I have for the moment. Will see it in person before I buy. Comes on a beads of rice Seiko bracelet

Any help is appreciated!

I just learned this is a ‘68 “error bezel”, which apparently was produced only for a year.

I'm not seeing any obvious issues. Obviously, if you think the dial is from 1968, then you should check that first digit on the caseback is "8", but you've probably already confirmed that.

There's an earlier style crown and a later style crown. This appears to have the later. Maybe get some better photos of the crown to be sure.

All looks good to me, linen dial in nice condition as is the outer bezel.

Hands look original and colour of lume / condition tallies with the rest of the watch.

Crown doesnt look right but they do come up on buyee.com

Great pick up.
They really are I had one almost locked down but the seller got mad when I asked two questions, just about originality and service. Apparently asking such questions makes me an a-hole. I didn’t even mind if it wasn’t serviced just wanted to know if I should get it done. Darn guy sold it for 80 bucks less than I offered but I do really like the look of them in if you dig seiko it’s a nice model to have

Looks promising. IMO these are very underrated. Prices seem to be rising.
Too true. I was bidding on one of these a few months back and it went way above where I thought it would. I can see why they’re becoming more collectable as they’re a great looking and practical watch.

All 3 of the major 6117 movement watches are rapidly accelerating. This one had been under the radar. The 6117-8000 traditionally got the glory, and the 6410 tends to be a later also ran. The 6010's esp with this dial are great but went unnoticed.

Conditions matter, and my guess in a few years this example will appear to be very very well bought.

Guys, any thoughts on the crown? From my research, it comes like it's correct.

Also, in terms of accuracy... what's considered decent time keeping for this caliber?

If you are interested in collectibility, you might want to focus on the original 6217-7000 version from 1964.

This is one of the originals I just picked up. You'll notice a few differences.

I understand that your model is the earlier 1964 Olympics model, hence the differences like crown and hands.

Correct, the hands are no-lume and the GMT hand is black. The case-back has the Olympic flame. The dial is obviously no-lume with different cities on the timer ring and different printed text. These are some of the things that changed slightly over time. There are also black-dial versions.

I think this could be a nice watch to collect several different versions; it has an interesting history and they are not too expensive.
