Dear members, as I read about another release by Oris today I began wondering about a shadow box of junky watches that’s been hanging in my workshop for what I think has been a few years.

There’s an Oris in there. When I sealed the box with Gorilla tape to likely not be opened again I thought of the old Seinfeld episode where he does not know his girlfriend's name, but it rhymes with a female body part.

So here is the photo of the still sealed shadow box. Given the popularity of Oris, and the attractive dial and lume… well maybe I should open it.

What else do you see? (and don’t confuse this with a sales post, but for $5000 I may let some pieces go)

I am noticing that one corner is splitting anyway! What do you see?

I think we need to see you sporting about in WRUW with that newly rehab'ed Oris.

The Oris… Missing the caseback. And perhaps the rotor. I am not a watchmaker.

The Ruhla…

The Lucerne… Lucerne seem to always have cheap 1 jewel movements… The Wiseman… And the one pocket watch that looks complete has a locomotive on it’s less than perfect case. I think I am beginning to remember why I sealed that box! Not much excitement as @Fallout Boy pointed out. And I agree with @noelekal that the Oris would look good. Will be on the lookout for a caseback.

Looks a lot like my collection of 'practice' watches.

The Bettlach pendant with the Louie whatever number dial in the upper left quadrant, looks a lot like the one I had that fell apart. I did replace it with a similar sort of watch lots. The replacement also fell apart. Still have the pieces to glue back together sometime.

May have an 'Oris' somewhere or the remains of such. Possibly with an A Schild movement. Or even a Landeron 48/51. So many of these 'quality' watches tend to be missing the case back's. Perhaps they are like books where the covers are missing. (Sent back to the publisher as proof the book was destroyed or pulped.)

Now if there was a caseback for a monkey ward Le Gran ...

Lucerne again. Looks good from afar but is far from good.

Reminds me of a listing that has been on local Craigslist for months. Asking $9k for his “collection” in the box. And no, don’t even bother asking to buy one watch. It’s all or nothing.

I like the look of this, but I have no idea what it is.

I'm guessing the "rolex" is fake...

The short answer is NO!

The entire auto wind mechanism of the “Oris” is gone! Check out the arrow in the picture. That is/was the hairspring! No sense crying over spilt milk! Don’t humiliate a watchmaker by asking him to restore it!

Hah! Back in the day that is what watchmakers did. More likely one just gets another box of scraps. Then another box of scraps for the parts to fix the ones in yet another box of scraps.

I probably have one just like it in my box-o-scraps. One other thing with the backs, they are often marked 'Made in Hong Kong.' Cost savings that did not much help the swiss industry in the 1970s.

Now I just need motivation to make some pipe organ leather scrap straps for mine.

This one looks fun. I see a rotating bezel and I get excited.

Oris movement looks like an EB or RL. Low grade stuff. You would need a total movement swap on this one. Is there a movement holder? Someone has probably used this one for parts. Dial retaining screw is loose tells me there is more trouble hidden.

Yes this pile is best kept in a sealed shadow box. @Aroxx here is the skin diver. Same as many others, missing the case back and other watch guts.

The only nice one was the LeCoultre and I sent it to @Vercingetorix for $10.

Sure does have some pointy lugs. Not going to be telling anyone the time without a balance.
