Rolex bro. Get the Rolex. Not a better watch made. You won't loose any money if you need to sell down the road.

I personally prefer to strap thousands of dollars directly to my wrist. Don't lose any money that way.

These are mass produced luxury items that no one truly needs. I like getting a good deal, but I don't buy watches based on how much money I could get if I had to sell them.

Unexpected expenses arise, but if your financial situation is such that a few thousand is going to make a big difference in your ability to pay for those unexpected expenses, I don't think a luxury watch is a good idea.

From 1 meter? But I'm still sure the watch's movement was still intact. If you make a car accident, the bumper will go off, the important thing is that the car is still running.

But you're missing the point...the Helium loss. That's horrible. Horrible.

Wait a sec, a DJ doesn't have a helium. It's not a dive watch. NJ ot even the submariner has one. Only the seadweller and the deepsea have one. I didn't follow you. Maybe you meant the back case? Which is not possible either. Anyhow, something was definitely wrong with that watch. Perhaps not properly serviced?

Anything is possible.

One time I dropped a Rolex and the hairspring fluid leaked out.

You never know.

You never know what will happen in life. Maybe you should grab a plane and leave the country without having any time to withdraw any money. With a Rolex, you can actually buy your plane ticket to anywhere in the world.

Now that you mention it, I remember one time when I was on the run.

Didn't have anything on me but my rolex.

Stepped right up to the departure gate, placed my rolex on the counter and they emptied the entire plane for me. Very useful.

Tried with an Omega once and they put me on the no fly list.

Exactly.

No passport. No ticket. No money.

Only a Rolex.

Right this way to first class sir.

Yeah, way to sniff out that line of bs. Pfffft, the nerve of some people trying to sucker us into believing a DJ has any helium in it!

It's been said that there aren't many situations a gold Rolex can't get you out of. 😉

It has an oyster case...it most definitely has Helium....no doubt...100%...it just doesn't have the Helium escape valve so it stays really tight in there. That's why the dials sometimes go tropical.

I have tried and tried to find the pearl in my Explorer II but I can't. I was told every genuine Oyster case Rolex has a pearl of authenticity so I would be grateful if someone could tell me where to look.

Yup that noble non reactive helium really protects those dials. Shame when it gets out and the dial suffers.

Rolex was getting that bad helium for years the impurities lead to so many tropical dials. Omega with the NASA connections for high quality helium from the US strategic Helium reserves. Hence far less Tropical dials.

I didn't know Rolex put helium in their watches. Those oyster cases are the best though. My 1016 is very light on the wrist so the 60's helium must still be inside.

thanks everyone. I have looked at many forums, and yes as someone pointed out, I've got a Rolex itch. However, I've tried it on, it looks and feels a bit slight on my wrist - especially for nearly 6K. The PO looks great, and I'm thinking of the PO GMT, but it's 43.5 mm and ruddy chunky - I've already got two big fellas in the two speedmasters.

I've tried them all on, but in the back of my mind is the depreciation of the omega, vs the appreciation of the rolex. If you look on watchfinder, a 14 yr old rolex costs more than a new one. And with BREXIT and the drop in value of the £, montredo is no longer worth looking at.

I hadn't even thought of the Tudor. Good call.
Never buy a watch as an investment... Buy a watch to keep forever or potentially flip, but never expect a profit. Especially if buying new, unless you plan to keep the watch in a safe for 20years to hope for a slight appreciation.

Two aerospace engineers enjoying lunch alfresco today in Hamburg:-

Sub-Date Colleague: What’s that you’re wearing?
Omega Colleague: It’s a ’69 Constellation
Sub-Date Colleague: But where’s your other one?
Omega Colleague: Which other one, I have several?
Sub-Date Colleague: You know the good one?
Omega Colleague: They are all good.
Sub-Date Colleague: YOU KNOW, the expensive one with the flashy bracelet.
Omega Colleague: You mean my Globemaster with the mesh bracelet?
Sub-Date Colleague: Yeh, right. Why are you wearing that “Ford”?
Omega Colleague: “Ford”!? If this is a Ford, then I guess you must be wearing a 1970s Pimp’s Cadillac with Leopard-skin upholstery. Now that we’re done with the Rolex vs Omega cliché nonsense can we get back to enjoying lunch? Please?
