To each their own. A bit OT but Here are my GMT hand twins...

What curved strap do you have there? I've been looking for a strap like that...

They are from Cousins in the UK who offer mail order and sell internationally. You may be pleasantly surprised to hear that they are very cheap and fit all the Omegas I have tried perfectly. They don't fit the Exp-II as well and curved spring bars are needed to make it fit well. As such I will probably swap the Rolex onto either a brown leather or back onto the original bracelet at some point soon. They offer a wide range and I can also recommend their buffalo straps both with and without saddle stitching.

PCLs can be brushed and then polished again later if you want.

the seamaster 2254.50 and the Sub almost identical? Only in that they are roundish and tell the time...🙄

Hi All,

so I'm putting together a watch collection.

I currently have:
omega seamaster 2254.50
omega speedmaster mark iv automatic (1974)
omega speedmaster mark ii (2015)

I'm seriously looking at adding a new watch to my collection. I'm thinking of a rolex submariner, but it looks almost identical to my seamaster and is about four times the price. I'm not wild about the polished links in the bracelet and the 40mm case size feels a bit small.

I was also looking at the rolex GMT Master II - but the dial looks very cramped and the shiny bracelet is very off putting. The Omega Planet Ocean GMT looks a much classier alternative.

One thing that stands out though is that even second hand, Rolexes are sometimes more than brand new, so as an investment, the Rolex seems a sound option.

Rolex vs Omega. Any opinions?

Paul

I don't think "classy" is the first word coming to mind when I see the planet ocean GMT... Lol

I would always vote for adding a vintage diver to the mix. An old sub or Tudor sub are good. I'd vote for pretty much any of the modern Tudor divers too. I'd also say the omega SM300MC is a good choice. Or a vintage 300.

At the risk of being hugely pedantic, that watch on the right is a 2054.50, not a 2254.50. The bracelet is the Bond not Speedy type which is the difference.

True, but We're talking about the watch head similarities - but your right to point out the difference in the Ref. Number. So for clarification:

And not a lot changes...

Oh really? I think all of those points can be argued either way save 1. The value though... You get a lot more watch with Omega for your dollar, the other points are within spitting distance of each other. The depreciation on both is pretty even dollar wise, although the percentage may be lower on certain Rolex.

Yeah, you literally get more watch. Maybe that's why omega is upping their prices... They think pricing is done by weight...

When you buy omega, you get a fat thick frying pan-sized brick made of liquidmetal, ceramic, silicon, antimagnetic, master coaxial, METAS, naiad locking system, exhibition caseback, coaxial, master coaxial, master master coaxial chronometre, ZrO2 overengineered technology.

Don't buy modern Rolex either.

Yes there is. You can choose to ignore it or you can embrace it but it's there

I was shopping yesterday and the guy next to me had a very attractive white faced Daytona. His chrono second hand was ticking a little odd, much like a quartz does. None of second hands on my Omega's tick that way.

Think sideways, Rolex 16570 Explorer 2. One of the best designs in my opinion and reasonable prices, mostly

I posted a pic of one of those a page ago along with a SMP-GMT (2234.50). The price is really only reasonable for a Rolex, the 2234.50 is much more reasonable still.

And more rare probably. I love the 2234, but maybe a GW?

Totally agree. They are about is identical as the Datejust and Constellation.

I replaced a WatchCo SM300 with a Sub 14060M and never regretted it, even though I miss the SM300 a little. Both Seamaster and Sub are good watches but very different and very different brands.

Rolex is the gold standard investment wise generally speaking.. But what you want on your wrist is personal.
