Firstly, please don’t burn me at the stake for asking but could you fit a Seamaster 145.016 dial (861 movement) into a Speedmaster case?

I’m sure you’re being well intentioned but post's like that will be the death of this forum.

I honestly don't understand. I was not trying to be an ass. I saw your other post after just reading the other thread and it seemed to fit your comment "please don’t burn me at the stake."

I can't add a confirmation but share my thoughts over possible incompatibility: The cases are different sizes with the Seamaster being 38mm and while they both accept the 861 movement, it does make me wonder if the Seamaster dial will be too small for the larger Speedmaster case. Here are two movement shots as comparison and I honestly can't tell if the movement holders are different sizes or if they just have a different shape that gives the illusion of the Seamaster holder appearing smaller than the Speedmaster holder.

The link was neither constructive nor relevant to my question but succeeded in touching a nerve. It feels pretty condescending to essentially be told ‘don’t make a frankenwatch’ as a reply.

@Scarecrow Boat Thank you for your thoughts. I actually have both these references and although the case widths on paper are pretty different, the verniers across the crystal is pretty close ~34mm.

Edit: I’m not sure the difference in movement holders matters, imagine literally just swapping the dials on these two watches. Just to reiterate to the OF members who may be foaming at the mouth at this stage - THIS IS NOT WHAT I WILL BE DOING!

Here you go, gents!
Did some little Photoshop.
I think it looks awesome, but definitely a bit small in the Speedmaster case.

145.016 cal 861 dial.

Hey, hey, hey… don’t start giving people ideas!

Looks great although I’ll dispense with the double tachymeter and fit a 60 Second bezel just to really trigger the purists. Seems a cheap way to get the radial aesthetic.

Just in case I also tried the black dial version.

The bezel should decimal or pulsation to look good.

Fair enough. It was not my intent, but I can understand why you took it that way. Please accept my apologies.

No worries, you caught me at a low ebb and I didn’t need to be so prickly. 👍

@Risto You’re a talented photoshopper, let the hunt begin for spares.

beyond the movement holder, Can you measure the diameter of both dials? I think the Seamaster dial is a bit smaller and would need to have a support ring made.

Here you go. Didn't have a perfect base photo for this, but it gives a general idea.
You can throw anything into Speedy case!

Going off ebay listings, it seems the 145.016 dial is about 30.36mm and the pro is about 31.18mm. So close but you might expect a bit of clearance when putting the seamaster dial in a speedy case?
