Seamaster date vs the no date.

I am in the market for a new Seamaster, but I am confused about Omega's pricing here. I am looking at the blue ( not summer blue) date, but also the no date black. I know some people like aluminum bezels and some ceramic. Some people like a date window some do not. However, the ceramic is a more expensive feature and a upgrade on most watches. Also, the date is an extra complication. So why is it that the no date Seamaster is a more expensive watch by a substantial amount. I looked at Rolex no date Sub and it is quite a lot less than the date version. Again some people like the no date over the date, but the price reflects the extra complication I believe. Am I missing something here? Do the no date Seamaster have a better movement? I believe the dial on the no date is also aluminum and ceramic on the date version. This is very confusing to me. Can someone explain this to me?

My best guess is Omega is pricing based on expected demand rather than an actual figure that is based on rounded fixed premium percentage over cost. So since its a newer release and the expectation that people want a non date SMP with aluminium dial/bezel more than the standard SMP they priced it higher. It's basically pure money grab.

Omega pricing structure and todays MSRP asking price does not make sense anyways.

Exactly. All the complaining on here from people wanting a no date version, so they delete it and change the bezel and charge more.

Why does a mass produced stainless steel watch from Omega cost more than this $169 Cestrian, which features a ceramic bezel?

https://a.co/d/b2VqEEm

It’s all hype and demand and marketing. The product Omega puts out is going to be better in terms of performance, fit & finish, etc, but it won’t be the difference between a Ford Focus and a formula 1 race car. Don’t expect any kind of logic when it comes to how these watches are priced. As soon as you’re into luxury watches, logic is right out the window.

Which is why we like them so much.

Update: I pulled the trigger on this new SMP blue date version. It is a great watch. Love the dial, hands / hour markers, twisted lugs, color and even the He valve. However, I am struggling with the bracelet. It is weird. If I see my reflection from a couple of feet or more away, it looks totally fine. However, looking down onto my wrist it looks bulky. Feels fine, but I'm struggling to adjust to the look on my wrist. I knew this was an issue with this watch, but when I tried it on at the AD and looked in their mirror it looked great. I know what the solution is ( rubber or mesh strap), but making another purchase just after I bought this watch doesn't seem reasonable. Has anyone here bought the Seamaster on bracelet and was able to do some mental gymnastics to learn to accept this bracelet watch package? I know I'm not alone in this but is the only way out to buy a different strap/bracelet?

Yeah it’s an issue, at least for some (perhaps many) of us. The bracelet on the Seamaster divers is the weak link—pun intended. It’s nice to have microadjust, but it means the clasp is so bulky and you’ve got such a massive chunk of metal on the underside of your wrist. That and the nontapering bracelet design… it’s not for me, as much as I truly love the dial. I also had two of these clasps fail on me—as in stuck closed on my wrist. Finally sold the watch.

I don’t have any mental or spiritual guidance to help you overcome the issue.

That said, it’s a freakin awesome watch, and I’m willing to bet there are other OEM bracelets that might fit it—? That’s what I did for my 3rd gen diver: I attached a tapering, non-dive (hidden clasp) Aqua Terra bracelet. It’s now, in my opinion, the perfect Omega watch—the only one I own. (The original bracelet stays in the safe.) It’s a bit more Rolexy, but I prefer the oyster-style design of the AT bracelet to the factory one, which is a bit overdesigned for my taste. And there’s no bulk under the wrist and the whole package wears much lighter.

Not something a dive watch purist would accept, perhaps, but most of us aren’t actually diving with these, right?

Maybe you can find a similar option to fit yours? If such a solution exists, someone here on this forum will know.

Good luck! That blue dial is so gorgeous.

I have a very small wrist and I love mine. Comfortable and easy to adjust. I personally hate straps, they feel cheap to me. Actually after wearing this my speedmasters seem light.

I think it looks great on your wrist, but I’m someone who loves the look of the Seamaster 300M bracelet. I sometimes wished it tapered a bit, but have also come to appreciate how the lack of taper gives it a bit of character. It’s a very well-made bracelet and I love the push micro adjustment in the clasp.

I think it looks fine on your wrist, its a dive watch and is ok if its a bit bulky. Like everybody is saying, a good tapering bracelet or strap really does change the feel of the watch and there are many options of both out there.

Nowadays, and speaking about rolex, this is my opinion. Submariner for diving. Submariner date for the office. For the chiringuito and posturear, both watches do the job.

Enjoy your seamaster professional diver.

Ha, this is some dissonance that I can relate to for sure. When I wear my Speedmaster, it looks great in the mirror. When I look at it on my wrist though, it looks "off" somehow, like it's not "for" me.

RE: the tank tread bracelet, I haven't had this issue when wearing my SMP. Looks great on the wrist and even better in the mirror. BUT, totally see what you're saying

lol, We are the opposite. The speedy for me is great no matter in the mirror or down the wrist. The Seamaster looks good in the mirror, but the bracelet is a struggle for me down the waist.

Perhaps we should take a moment and be thankful for our first world problems.

Yeah, when you say it like that it seems a little un grateful hey. Here we are with some of the best luxury items in the world and we are complaining about the lack of perfection. Need to put it in perspective.

I also think that the bracelet is the biggest point of criticism of the current SMP300m. In that respect, we are waiting for a new model, hopefully this year. With thinner links and clasp. And taper! Actually exactly like they did with the Speedmaster in the last iteration in 2021.

By the way, what do you think about a new movement for the SMP300m? Would they spoon in the current 8800 again or is there a possibility for an update?
