Damn, I really never thought there could be hidden treasures in Paris anymore…Although the word « treasure » is a bit strong here. I love patina but this is a lot of it…
Of course if you got it for 100€, you can make a crazy daily beater out of it to remind you of this moment! 😁
Always great to find lost watches anyway!
May I ask in what area of Paris it was? 😀

I love the look on this honestly. It was in the center, on the Marais side!

If the costs surpass the value of the watch by a lot, it would make more sense to sell it to someone who can take care of it.

If the watch is worth way more than the repairs (which by going by the lowest possible end of ballpark the watchmakers gave me, is the case), I’d much rather keep it and have my mind at ease regarding costs.

I think you will want to budget at least $1000 USD for repairs. It could need a lot of parts and labor.

From a value perspective, it's really just a case and serial number plate (and the latter only has value if an Extract ties it to the reference). So I'd say that overall the watch is worth more than the cost of repairs, but the cost of repairs will be substantial, and repairing the movement won't increase the value of the watch.

Repairing the movement will make it an actual wearable watch, and that’s all I want, as I want to wear it as much as possible. Planning on asking for an extract!

I was just responding to your earlier comments about value and the relative cost of repairs to value. If you've not longer concerned about that ... great.

Nice, welcome - now let's hear some more about what made that dinner date so memorable!
Btw, I didn't see a response to "I’m trying to figure out the HF engraving in the back". That's Huguenin Frères 📖

Judging by the condition of the hands, there was enough moisture inside, that the dial paint will have bubbled. But it should be ok to clean the rust off and the brass plate will be fine. Looks like it was stored glass down after the crown seal failed.....

Wearing this watch would going to make my neighbors donate me 2-3000 yen to buy me a seiko!

Wow! Thank you for the info!
Well, I lived in France for many years and I got to fly my girlfriend there for her birthday and took her for a stroll around town like the old times, even though we’d been there before. That alone made the whole trip!
