Roman numerals are just wrong on a wrist watch

I’ll agree with the OP and with a few others that don’t like any numbers, Roman or otherwise. I like the clean no numbers look all day long, but there are some pretty convincing arguments posted here. Nice watches gang!

(edit to add: no numbers on the Dial, bezel doesnt count 😀)

I am enjoying the watch photos, but I am mentally distracted by the thought of someone replacing a perfectly good 'bald' tire with a new one. As long as cords are not coming through the 'bald' tire will generally have better grip. Okay, I can see having grooved tires on one of your vehicles so you can drive in wet conditions, but for Dog's sake leave at least one with some good grippy tires so you can have maximum fun.

Has anyone ever made a Tachymeter bezel with all Roman Numerals on the bezel?

The bezel numbers would be: D, CD, CCCL, CCC, CCLXXV, CCXXV, CC, CXC, ...

Just curious.

So if you come across one, I will sacrifice myself for your mental well-being...

exactly!

and this is also the same neck tick and eye twitch induced by the "IIII" on Roman numeral dials.

Euww - Romans on bezel? Now that really is wrong. No-one would do that, now would they?

Oh wait...

If the one in the photo is yours...

I learn everyday on this Forum, and stand corrected....I will now enjoy my direct descendant, modified, of the Venus 175 via China via Germany.

I’d have to say I disagree... there are plenty of dials that look stunning in my opinion with Roman numeral markers, some of which have been posted above.

Perhaps a few more to change your mind...

Latin is a dead language, and so is the numbering system that joins it. Applied baton markers of Arabic only for me.

A classic case of a dichotomy! Everybody is right. I like Arabic numerals. I like Roman numerals.

I generally agree with the OP unless the maker is:

CARTIER

Their watches without Roman numerals just look wrong.

I think as a quirky and fun thing Roman numerals have their place, even if in general I lean towards indices. I really dislike numbers (arabic or roman) that are chopped though. In the end it is all personal taste and fashion, right?

Even though the question was about Romans on wristwatches, here are two of the most famous watches in the world, both sporting Roman numerals and I don't think they could have been improved with Arabics, stick, Breguet or other style numerals.
