Interesting... My local AD also stock, Breitling, Rolex, Omega etc. When discussing the Snoopy and subsequent deposit, I also enquired on how do I go about ordering a Submariner as I'm considering one for my 50th in... ahem, a couple of years or so
-
When I asked for mine I stated/questioned that the watch would be about 18 months to 2 years to come through, my SA said possibly but I hope it will be sooner than that, it took just 12 days for the call to come and a further 7 days to pick the watch up as I was on holiday.
1) I have to formally state my interest in a Rolex piece and complete the form... err, OK? -
Yep I did this
2) They then undertake an internal check... am I local - within 50 miles, what is my purchase history etc... WTF? -
Yep, the store did this
3) I will then be invited, at some point in the future
...to put down a deposit to confirm my interest and I'm on 'the' list...
-
No, the store didn't ask for a deposit
A Submariner, for me is to scratch the divers itch also, as I've now purchased 3 Omega's of late, I fancy a change for my next piece. -
Yep, went Rolex to make a change from Omega
I'm assuming I've already opened the door but I'm undecided if I want to proceed due to the
hoops. Initially I was peeved, being told to how to jump... for a mass produced watch! In hindsight they may have been hinting I'm already at 3) as I was also informed it's simply a formality as they already have my details/history with them etc... if so, why not simply say so
-
These are not hoops, the watches aren't mass produced, if they were there would be more of them, they would be cheaper and nowhere near as sought after. The checking process is to minimise the chance of flippers getting the watches, don't know who your AD is but mine is part of the WOS group, I was told that if I had registered at another AD within the group I would get nothing from either.
It just seems a bit... overcooked compared to my purchasing experiences with Omega and, at the same AD
-
Difference being that Omega hasn't as yet sorted out its range or its marketing dept, they make excellent watches, watches that I am more than happy to wear but they lack that extra bit of zing that a Rolex has, just how may Seamaster designs are there?
I'm still possibly interested in going ahead but am I reading too much into the process, is it simply how it's done a'la Rolex
