Rolex to release 2020 models

God I hate it when people like Wei don't tell the truth. Instead, they toe the line so they stay on the good side of Rolex. He really wanted to say, "Rolex, you idiot! Why are you making it bigger when people are already complaining about bigger watches! If anything, you should have made a 39mm with super slim lugs!"

You know that's what he really wanted to say because if you watch the video he never actually straps on the watch to his wrist but keeps it on top of his hand. It's because he wrists are too small to support the huge case. It would look like a toddler trying on his dad's watch.

You now need giant meat hooks to wear a Sub....:whipped:

I have the "old" model with the 3135 tried and true movement and I am quite satisfied with it.

I may be doubling up sorry, but just posting all the new OPs (36mm below, same colours minus pink for 41mm)

Absolutely love the new colours.

They look dull & boring to me. Hopefully they look better IRL. Why no starburst or weirdly beautiful textures?

Yeah it's pretty disappointing that the colors don't have texture and are just solid. But I actually think they look awesome. Reminds me of the vintage Rolex daydate stella dials. Maybe it was an inspiration for the 36 OP? The blue is a stunner, something I'd love to have 🙄 the yellow one too! The size is cool, 34mm would've been cooler imo 😁

Uninspired... Unnecessary design additions (double batons). Colour palettes for me either are mismatched/stark (the hue of the blue sub on black dial, or frumpy (other than the pink).

Is this really not a spoof? Pepto bismol pink? Food dye red? Generic mustard yellow? Poison ivy green and Alien skin?

This is perplexing. Maybe they got sick and tired of people complaining that they were manipulating the market by holding back on supply and decided to kill the demand.

Or maybe it's just one more thing that makes 2020 a terrible year.

Some of those looks terrible but the sub date with blue bezel looks nice

I think what Wei Koh says is right, perfecting the perfect watch. Let's see IRL if the latest model is a continuation or a regression.

I once briefly considered an OP36 and the double batons put me off.

Back to the colours on the new OPs, they look utterly terrible. As if they've come straight from a Korean redialling factory.

And why has the 39mm been discontinued?! I always thought it the range was well covered with the OP being 39mm and the DJ being 41mm (which incidentally is far too large for a time only watch imo).

I would guess Rolex did more than enough research to know what most people actually want. The new case will wear similarly (reports suggest better) as the lug to lug measurements don't seem to have changed. It's also yet to be confirmed whether the new model is actually a whole 1mm larger than the previous one. Also, in the Hodinkee article they included a shot of the watch on the wrist btw.

Well, the white dial 34-36-39 series are extremely popular and were only in production for 2 years, so I suspect that it's possible the opposite may happen, at least for that particular colorway.
You are right they have discontinued it! I also liked the white dial and did not see this coming.

Thanks for sharing... Great picture in the article of. new vs old sizing.

I must say, I am liking the slimmer lugs and early reports of folk seem to be suggesting the new line wears more comfortably :

I reluctantly admit that they have done a great job in making a 41mm watch look smaller and more elegant than the 40mm
Side by side it's very hard to see a difference in the lenght which is the real problem on big watch.

I was hoping for something more for the sub but they have done a good job.

The new Sub is 50mm+ lug2lug, way to big for most wrists IMO

They are pretty much identical in lenght And the 41mm on the left really looks smaller than the 40mm on the right.....
I guess it will wear just like the old one.

I love my 41mm Seamaster 2254 - so I know a 41mm Sub will be utterly fine. I love the new dimensions.
