And the strap is not correct for the watch either. The watch has been staged but the head still looks nice.
Also as the seller has formerly sold pretty much nothing but baby clothes it would be most odd to know how to stage a watch like this. I remain suspicious.

As usual, you chaps have spotted more than me. The strap is pure early 1950s, not 1966. I should have clocked that. And it is of course the wrong box - it should be a red almost square one I think? And a woman who only sells baby clothes somehow knows that she should get it appraised by STS 馃槙

Way too many red flags here: band, box, tag, story, seller...

None of the pieces fit together.

Could be a legit sale, but something surely seems off.

Should this watch also have hands with black inserts to match the markers? It looks like lumed hands from the pictures...and without movement shot and all the above makes for something fishy!馃

That's what I thought too...those markers are painted on right? Where's Hoi when you need him!?? 馃榿

Edit: shouldn't those lugs be sharper for a NOS watch?

The markers do have onyx inserts and the watch is not crisply photographed, chamfers may be sharper than they appear. Hands are wrong.

Do you think the hands were possibly replaced at an earlier service?

There are different edges to those lugs. I once asked the same question and Mike said something about one case having very sharp facets while another might be more rounded on the top facet.

Thanks D. I think you're right. As I've seen some fellow members with perfect examples, you being one, and they are slightly different. When I first got my sharper lugged one I didn't think it was right, almost like they had been shaved to a point! But there were definitely a few variations on these. Also, being onyx it doesn't have the little "expensive" onyx marker by the date, so I'm guessing its a later one. Hands still baffle me tho.

The photos are big, but don't show side views or detail. Hoi does have microscope eyes and he might pick up on something, such as the top chamfers.

Hello hello. Here I am.

Sorry, cannot tell you much from those pictures, the black paint on the hands might shrink and make you think they're lumed hands.
The markers looks like onyx inserts BUT i doubt it, sometimes they paint down a bit at the tips and from side view, you think it's insert but it's still black paint. This watch has too many red flags so I prefer to have closer look before I can confirm something...

I have been in touch with the seller. Her name is Esther and she was given the watch as a present from her husband, but she felt it was too big for her and it has been agreed that it should be sold. The husband apparently has a modern Omega and several other watches, so it is to him that we should probably look for answers to our questions. However, it might well be undiplomatic to do so in this particular instance . . .
