Hi Mike, can I ask - if the OVD says the model number of 168.017 is for a C-shape, does this mean the caseback is not correct for that piepan? Or is it just another example of inconsistencies & errors in the OVD? Thanks!
That's weird, unless someone has a similar example I would say it's either a rare one or a c shape back...
It's a frankenwatch, unfortunately. If the price stays low, you may be able to find a spare 168.005 case on eBay someday. Really a shame, because the dial condition is excellent. gatorcpa
That's a shame, The onyx markers look painted on, when compared to my 168.005, you can see the onyx is solid through the whole marker, the eBay one doesn't seem to pass through the markers... What do you think?
The 168005 167005 that have movement serial # higher than 24 mil have the hour markers painted black, not onyx inserts like the older ones. That's why the 168005 powered by a 564 in 24 mil range with onyx inserts are rare and highly collectible
Yes I have one of these. Hoi, I believe has several. I agree with what Hoi says about these, "To me, they are the last Princes of Omega Golden Age", as these are wonderful in both design and function. This one is a one owner presentation watch. Given to retiring ALCAN employees. I have both the original presentation back and a replacement back for it.
Yes the caseback is incorrect for the watch. A good buy if you have the correct caseback or are willing to wait for one to show up. Or if you need the parts for a project you are working on.
Regarding the caseback, any other differences besides the reference number? Or the proper caseback will have a different style/logo?
Thanks Mike! And could I also ask how difficult it is in general to find the correct caseback? It sounds from the conversation so far that the right 168.005 caseback is uncommon and may take many months to be found...
I can guarantee this won't go cheap now it's been posted on here....I was selling one of these fully serviced and new crystal, around £850, and I can say that's fairly cheap here in the UK. Just to note, I saw a redialled one in a vintage watch shop here in london for 1800£!
It's a common model so the caseback should show up for sale on Ebay but it might take several months.
The gold medallion backs seem to show up for sale more then the all steel ones, often in NOS condition.

That a***5 with 0 feedback is almost certainly a shill. They keep pooching up the top price by $30 or $40 each time.
