Dang, been lurking these forums for a couple weeks looking to start my collection with a vintage 50's or 60's omega, and just found this thread of all the people swooping in on my bids. Been looking for a cal 266, 267, 268, 501, 552, or 562, seamaster or constellation (bonus with the embossed back). Steel with gold applied numerals. Open to sub seconds if the face has the different texture on them. Ok with a little patina, and hoping I can time things right and get my entry under $500.

Have a bunch of ebay alerts, and seems to be a wide enough net that something should eventually fall through the crack. not sure if thats realistic or not. Everything fit the bill on this one, except my wrist is a little small and I don't think I can pull off a jumbo.

I recommend you become more specific with your search to begin with. Then really dive into that one model, narrow down to a specific reference or two and really get in the weeds. Otherwise it will be very easy to buy a refinished dial, wrong hands, etc. There's a ton of great info on these forums and the guys and gals are the best 馃憣 patience is your best asset. Also keep in mind you will need to service 99% of watches from Ebay and that cost is about the same for any watch you buy so be patient and make sure its one you love.

A Geneve is probably your best bet given your budget. Constellation is 100% out of your range as these sell around 1500 for a mediocre model right now and probably over 2000 for a nicer example (obviously exceptions can be found) and Seamaster is likely 700+ for a nicer model from what i have seen recently.

Of course, open to others opinions but just my two cents.

Good luck!

This is great information. Likely my lack of patience that is keeping my net wide haha. I鈥檒l take that advice and narrow it in, I have seen a couple models that are exact fits for what I am looking for. So I鈥檒l do some deeper dives on those.

have found these forums super helpful. So thank you!

5 hours left on this 1950s Seamaster. Listing says 500 movement but pic doesn鈥檛 show the number.

Just an fyi, this example was extremely polished, which typically detracts from the attractiveness for most. Normally members that post/recommend listings on this thread are members with tons of experience that are "recommending" the individual piece for others to purchase. I can appreciate your willingness to participate in the forums and encourage it, but just keep that in mind.

If I am off base, I hope others correct me.

I'm amazed at the price here. Blue ones and driver ones are the most valuable (though not a reverse-pie-pan, which is sad), and that one isn't half bad. I paid $500 each for 2 chronostops in need of help (and I probably will only get 1 done :/), but I probably would have forgone both of those for this one!

Hello, my budget for a new omega has increased from $500 to $710.

Jk, unfortunately, I remain omega-less. Just don鈥檛 know all the nuances to look for in a listing. Def don鈥檛 have an eye for polish.

$710 is overpriced for that example. You were smart not to bid over $500.

Looks like a standard dish dial Erich, maybe the photos and lighting don't show it but look at the angled indices.
Be a good grab if it stays low-ish.

You're right! Just a way less obvious dish than the grey ones. I looked closer 馃榾 I put a bid in. I absolutely do NOT need another chronostop, but I bid enough that if I lose, I'll be happy it went for a decent amount 馃榿
