6 hours left on this Apollo Soyuz, one to watch not to really buy unless you are an expert

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/176793519552

In case any members are considering a bid - the expert consensus is this piece is not a legitimate series example of the AS. Instead, it was likely assembled in period by the Italian Omega distributor De Marchi from leftover components. It’s a cool franken, but a franken nonetheless.

Someone is going to be very disappointed in the next hour or two.

I am no expert on that model (well out of my price range) but pushers are clearly wrong so not surprised by this at all.

I am kind of curious what ebay's authenticators do with this. Sold for about $21,500. Seems like the description was not misleading.

I’d be flabbergasted if Stoll (eBay authenticator) knows enough to identify this as a Franken. eBay’s definition of “authentic” includes service parts, so it’s conceivable that they treat anything made up of genuine Omega parts as “authentic,” even if those parts aren’t correct.

Bet you a pint they punt! This will be a tough one to reject.

A good barrister could argue both sides........
- misrepresented, not a Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch Apollo Soyuz but actually a Speedy Pro with an AS dial.
- not misrepresented, show me the attempt to deceive and untruths in the wording.

My curiosity lies with the seller. Is he honest and just happened to phrase everything just so?
Not responding to requests makes me think not.

This Forum has shown me that there are some evil ones out there and this Forum has saved me 17k quid (hypothetically).

I would LOVE to pick your brain. We're all trying to get better at this, what are the red flags to you? I have been staring at AS photos for an hour now.

I wish I could say that I recognized this piece for what it is, but I was not familiar enough with the AS to know it was not a genuine series watch.

As was pointed out by a couple of more knowledgeable members, the case is not correct for a genuine AS. The genuine article has a case that accepts larger pushers and the subject watch does not have a case of this type.

At first glance, I thought it may be a genuine piece that had the engraving removed from the caseback (perhaps for nefarious reasons). It turns out that it is likely one of many unofficial AS watches cobbled together from leftover components in period by Omega’s Italian distributor (De Marchi) without authorization.

Thats a pretty broad request. They have been making connies almost continuously since 1952 with hundreds of references. Also this thread is specifically for recommended listings on ebay. Please feel free to start a new discussion outside of this thread if you are looking for advice. Or post a WTB thread in the marketplace. Cheers

Vintage Omega Seamaster Cal 55x in steel going no reserve in 16 hours

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235921867824

Have been looking for something like this for a first vintage watch. I might make a run at this auction - as someone that is very green to this space does anyone have any feedback on the listing, watch, or seller?
