Thank you Ash for all the recommandations you provide !

I am a french "observer" of this thread and have finally decided to bid on an auction that I won ! However, I just have a doubt regarding the dial of this ref 166.002 lacking the "Seamaster" (or "Genève") writing. On all the other pictures of ref 166.002 I could find on Google image, it is present. Is this normal ?

Thank you again for all your contributions to the thread

Alexandre

They’re uncommon but they do exist, there are also odd double signed examples with both Seamaster and Geneve on the same dial. Here’s a similar brushed dial that sold on Chrono24 recently with similar Swiss Made single T but different dial furniture

There’s another one here with just Swiss at the bottom

And another here:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-candidates-for-purchase-please-advise.71053/

The common denominator is that they are all 166.002s with Cal 560 movements, 17-jewel early models. These dials are likely domestic production hence the variation. Search for Omega 166.002 Cal 560 and you’ll find far more non-signed dials. They do appear to be unique to those early Cal 560 variants.

I haven’t but taking a deeper dive into the 166.002 family overall is something I will have to eventually as its a large and quite special family

The earlier ones have applied dials, from about 71 onwards they have the painted dial, the accountants were starting to take over at that point but it’s the correct dial for this serial.

Decent Omega Seamaster 166.003 Cal 562 in gold-cap going no reserve in the UK, polished case but quite attractive overall

I stand to be corrected but I think that the crown may be an incorrect replacement. It protrudes further than I believe it should.

Mind you, it’s probably a lot easier to wind than the original semi recessed crown.

I’d tend to agree but its within the range of crowns I’d be ok with for a daily wearer on one of these
