Pics hide how well-polished it might be. And not a single "face on" picture of the crown's "VISIBLE WEAR FROM AGE". Still, if the price doesn't go up much more I might have wanted it. It's one year earlier than my birth year, and I'm giving my gold capped birth year Seamaster to my son next week...

It's not perfect clearly, but the current seems really fair.

gold cap cases are never as sharp as SS but this one is really quite well-polished.
There are almost no facets showing on the lugs.

what is of interest is the ‘missing text’ dial in a 168.005 case - but the movement does show that it was produced on the cusp of the reference change.

The price has climbed from $900 to $1250 in 2 hours. I wonder what it's really worth outside of the auction frenzy "must win" mindset? Surely under $1000.

You think the "Solid Gold", "14k hallmark", etc. has some confused about it being capped?
It's not a collector's piece but the movement looks ok and will make someone happy.......just not me.

The $1850 is in Connie Pie-Pan dial territory now.

Snipes may push this over $2k....

Must be the super rare "Frog legs" instead of the more common.

Instead of the more common "dog legs"?

People have too much time on their hands, and I'm seeing a lot of auctions going too high.

People are gonna spend $2,000 on that old watch, and for $3,299 there is a fantastic 2yr old Planet Ocean 8500 with orange bezel in the FS section. There is a plethora of Moonwatches out there for just anther $1K. It just takes a little bit of a stretch to get to the next step up.

I agree, $1900 (£1530) is a crazy price for this watch - it’s a $1000 watch at best.

Meanwhile on this side of the pond a very good SS example sold for a little over £1130 - which was a good result for the seller IMHO.

However, whist I understand your value-reasoning, some of us don’t want a modern PO or Speedmaster and wouldn’t see these as a ‘step up’ from a vintage Constellation. 😉

Well, I did mention in an earlier post that I thought over $1000 was a bit much, and in another that for the price it was heading to that I'd rather have a Connie Pie-Pan. I know there is value to a vintage watch, I was just making a point at how ridiculous the price got up to.

I was just gently yanking your chain but on that point we can definitely agree 👍

At $900, it seems a fair price to me. I didn't think it would go that high

Not a full watch, but a pretty darn reasonable price ($89) for an 18mm OEM band and buckle combo (band 9800153).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OMEGA-...287273?hash=item2cfbdf7729:g:NtEAAOSwRG1czMNz

The same seller had a black one that I just bought. I've seen these same straps selling for $$$ elsewhere. A nice fit for 60s Seamasters, I believe, and it's easy enough to find new OEM buckles in stainless for <$50 if one prefers that to gold tone. Guessing this won't last very long.

(edit: just realized this was my 100th post. Cheers!)

I don't know if I should be thankful or not, but I let myself drawn in by the siren song of this embodiment of 70's brutality. So I'm waiting for another watch now!
