not Ebay but an auction house in Glasgow ( I have no link to the auction house)
lovely gold cap hidden crown Connie
super sunburst champagne dial
difficult to tell if has onyx inserts

a little bit polished on the edges of the lugs

http://www.mctears.co.uk/auctions/l...442a-9bf8-5e75fb74ff0e&page=1&referrer=browse

£400-£600 estimate -usual price nowadays

I'd be in for it myself if I hadn't just bought a near identical (but later) version from French Ebay

Another nice pie-pan at a reasonable price (for now):

Nice dial, but that case does look quite a bit polished (the lugs at least do).

Are those hands original to the watch? If so, shouldn't it read "Swiss made T" then?

Gold capped cases are rarely as sharp as solid steel or gold. Has to do with the fact that the gold cap is put on after the case is machined. I judge these by looking at the medallion.

Watch is older 5-digit reference. That means pre-1963 and before the "T" requirements. Although some manufacturers used them before they were mandated.

Hope this helps,

I do think the second hand is not original to that watch
Probably true. Look, the watch isn't perfect. If you can get it under $1K, it's a good buy and the correct hand is available.

Otherwise, I'd take a pass.

Here another early 1960's pie-pan. This one has the "full monty". Original leather and metal bands, inner/outer box, and paperwork.

Ah, we're not as widely read as you think. Your main competitors are already here and have likely seen it already.

Now Hodinkee is another story.

I have been watching this SM for quite a while now - still unsold... the condition is collect-worthy but the price is ridiculously high IMHO

Relisted on the bay yet again (ie, for the interested) ...

Is this not the same watch in the forums FS/FT section?
