Given the dial condition, it could be anywhere from $2700 - $4000 depending on how much somebody likes the patina. Hell, it could go for way more too!

Reall? what makes this a $2500-4000 watch? Seller says the case is ~35mm but the pics make it look much smaller. Is a nice watch.

The movement is a large part of that price.

Longines in-house chronographs are some of the most sought after watches the brand made. Don't know why exactly, but who knows what drives a watch nut.

In fact, it's not easy to find a nice example of a cal 30CH chronograph in that range. Most go above the USD5000 mark. The dial condition on these nonwaterproof watches is often an issue, as with other early wristwatch chronographs. I'm not precisely clear on what drives the demand either, except that the 30CH was from a time that Longines was a dominant player in the chronograph market, and the finissage really is nice for a mass produced movement

And if you think the 30CH is expensive, try pricing its predecessor, the 13ZN.

This iconic example with central seconds and minutes sold for north of USD26000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Longines-vtg-rare-steel-chronograph-ww-central-minute-recorder-13ZN-1946-/140987385741?pt=UK_Jewelery_Watches_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item20d380c78d&nma=true&si=6swfUr9aAwt22AOsFmNHi9ouKcg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Is the Longines chronograph movement in-house? If it is that'd tend to explain a lot, given how many Valjoux's, Venus's etc there were.

Yes, the 30CH was the last in-house wristwatch chronograph movement Longines made.

A pity the Longines now is a far cry from Longines then.

Yes, Longines was THE name here in the States because of their reputation back then.

Correct - they switched to the Valjoux 72 (as the caliber 33x) sometime in the 60's.

Swatch is slowly bringing them around.

True, but it was Swatch that parked them towards the bottom of their lineup in the first place.

Yes... congrats to the one-feedback buyer. Excellent first or second eBay purchase! :cautious:
Please post that lovely watch here and dispel my suspicions. :)

:D Not only one feedback, but 30 days activity showed 6 bids with 100 % activities toward this seller. I call this 'savior bidder'. Bidder who saved the seller from lower than expected final price......

Way too expensive for the condition, and the crown is a different shade of gold from the case. These are not as rare as the description is making them out to be. Finding one in mint condition is tough though.

I think I'm going to agree with you guys - it's back, but with a Buy It Now price:

I'm calling shenanigans. It went on auction and the market was supposed to determine the price. Seems like the seller was rescued from a lower final price than they wanted, doesn't it? :cautious:

I think there are many practice like this in eBay now, including some respected seller, too.

I agree H. And I know that there will be those who call us conspiracy nuts for thinking it, but there's simply too many of these coincidences happening since bidders' eBay ID's were coded.

In the interest of full disclosure, I invited the seller to come here and defend themselves. Since you can't give direct links in eBay messages, I told them to come to Omega Forums dot net and read page 5 & 6 of the Recommended Longines Watches on eBay thread.

Well, I should add that I told them the Ukraine sellers were masters of shill bidding but it seems to have caught on everywhere as evidenced by the "sale" of his watch last week and now it's relisting. :D

Because it costs more money in listing fees. It's always about the money.

    Hello, you guys.

I received a message from ulackfocus on Ebay to defend myself here on your forum.

I can tell you that I did use a friend's account to rise the price. I also would like to apologize for it. You will never see that 1 feedback account again. I've always been uncomfortable with the practice and will use reserves in the future.

The prices I set are out of necessity, as I'm using the money I generate to pay for my college education (I sometimes buy and sell watches). I shouldn't stoop so low, though. I will stick mostly to Buy it Nows.

I know you might think that I'm saying this because I was caught - but please know the shame I feel.

If you feel you need to report me, so be it. Jut know it won't happen again in either case.

Let me know and being a better seller,
    David

Thank you for the honesty David. I will say it is very tempting to misuse the bidding system now that it's private, and obviously paying for college is not cheap. You have a very nice watch that should sell for in the area of $2700 or more if you let it go on open auction.
