No worries. If you've ever seen a watch that had a medallion removed (happens with these Conquests and Omega Constellations on occasion) you'd see how the spot for the medallion is carved out of the caseback. Polishing that all the way down would make the entire caseback very thin.

EDIT: Just wanted to say I had spotted this watch a couple days ago and recommended it to a member after having a good look at it and comparing it to an identical one that a TimeZone member own(ed). The data I had on that was confirmed by this listing, and I've seen these with the same set up (bowler crown, no magnifier, plain caseback) a few times over the last 7 or so years.

Did anybody here get this one? Nice '58 Conquest Date @ 12 w/ Power Reserve:

s-l1600.jpg

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Longines-Conquest-Automatic-Power-Reserve-Wristwatch-/321902974787

It was still under $1040 with 10 seconds to go, then me and about 5 others went after it..馃お.

Final price: $2125!
1) Not all of those crystals came with magnifiers. It might or might not be original. Crystals can be considered normal maintenance items though.
2) This is a presentation watch, designed to take an inscription - none was put on it though. *medallions can't be polished off
3) The bowler crown is correct for that year & specific watch.
4) It's a dual reference because it's a variation of the regular model meant for inscription.
In other words, this is a rare and beautiful watch!
I haven't bought it yet, just doing my homework.
I don't believe you saying you are the one who WON the auction... just considering this reference, right?

I think he's saying he did win the auction, but hasn't paid yet.

Dude, pay and get that. It's in stellar shape, and these presentation watches that lack an inscription are very uncommon. I'm supposed to be in shutdown mode, plus I just sent Kyle a chunk of change (see the "And what did you buy today?" thread), so I had to pass. No big deal though as I would have lost figuring a $2000 bid would have brought it home.

..... and by the way, congrats! 馃憤

Glad it went to a fellow OFer. 馃榾 if u don't mind sharing, how much did it sell for?

I was the one buying it. 拢460 off ebay and with paypal gift. I had bought from him before (both on here and on ebay) and never had issues, so I felt comfortable in proceeding this way.

I'll try to post a picture later when I get home

That is the one, not sure what @jose75 is referring to..
He was referring to the same watch.

I'm not going to speak for @jose75 , but after what he told me, it sounds like the seller might have been up to his old tricks 馃槨... and why he's no longer allowed here on our forum 馃

@ulackfocus for vetting..

Looks good to me. Seems to be an original dial, the case looks good, and the crown is correct abeit a little worn. If you can get that watch under $700 you'd be getting a good deal. Gold filled versions like that are seen more often than solid gold specimens, but any of those caliber 34x doctor's dialed Admirals aren't everyday watches.

Which is why watching things like this hurts...

... real bad

Though sometimes, at 5.500 $ for the privilege, they also give a quantum, not a modicum, of solace...

... or just a plain good laugh at the crazy prices some people ask.

First, that is a crime against humanity, but the second is what is right and good in all of Watch-dom! What a specimen! Of all the different "Doc" watches, the Longines might be my favorite, the Hammys are fun too. Is the crown on the 14K stainless?

Why can't the seller be named and called out?
Seems like it would help others avoid disaster.

Who has the watch, Codice or Jose75? All very clandestine.馃槖
