I think you could make a case with eBay about this "deposit" listing. You could buy it, pay, and then try to get the watch shipped claiming that "Buy It Now" means just that and the deposit thing is bulls and against eBay's rules.
You really never know. A fedexophobic (almost sounds like a real word... there should be a word for fear of shipping, but there ain't) seller might use eBay to advertise an item, never intending to ship at all, and then give you a deal to avoid the risk of shipping. There are those who cannot afford to lose an $8k watch, even on a very good bet, so they might sell it face-to-face for $6k. As always, safety first, but... I might consider a day trip to Naugatuck for this.
I really doubt it's a scam. The seller has got himself really worked up about this. New listing with new pics, and now he seems to want $9750 for it http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-RARE-...OSIT-ONLY-9795-TOTAL-MAKE-OFFER-/171727051915Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Still has two listings with different prices. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe he really has two watches? gatorcpa
what does "the dial is the pink kind" mean? watch looks like a cracker as Lou likes to say. for $6k worth the trip IMHO (but not from Chi. lol)
He should self-medicate with one of his other products... might help him calm down a bit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-NIB-Der...158?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fb64a346Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Two nice solid gold Ultra Chrons floating around in the 'Bay tonight: 14K http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=391093921499Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network 18K http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=231514353793Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network I'd try to get them a little cheaper than the buy-it-now prices, but both look pretty nice. gatorcpa
A few more ultra-chrons to consider: SS - poor pics but low BIN. Worth a shot maybe? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Automatic-Longines-Ultra-Chron-1960s-Original-Bracelet-/221716569598Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network 18K, ending in 13 hrs - it previously sold at close to 700 euros, got relisted with a ridiculous BIN price, and now back on auction. Case and caseback might have had some polishing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251886904507Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network gd luck folks!
Shucks, now's my turn to miss the bloody obvious! Edited my post to replace with another candidate to consider
S'alright. I've made similar mistakes critiquing watches before, and I'll inevitably make them again.
Hmm...a bit discouraged by the last date of participation on this thread. So, for anyone who still looks here... http://m.ebay.com/itm/141670480029Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network A beautiful example of a mid-30's Longines. A bit small perhaps for today's taste. And I'm sure an expert will be along to point out issues not obvious to me! (I'm okay with that as if it mattered)... But here's the catch. The seller's reputation is stellar, and his ability to extract ridiculous high bids is astounding (still smarting over a nice Wittnauer that sold north of $400. Wittnauer, people!) Here's instant gratification in a photo from the listing on US eBay (hope the link works but the item number is there).
Unfortunately, the dial has been refinished (though he does, fairly enough, state that in his description).
Too bad about the dial lacquer issue, but still a very uncommon watch, and potentially attractive at the right price… http://www.ebay.com/itm/LONGINES-30...974?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1a0138cf36Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
This one is not on eBay, but it looks to be a nice honest watch at a nice honest price... It's on TimeZone. I've dealt with this seller before (original chronokid) and he is a straight shooter. Crown is likely not correct, but it fits and looks OK. Perfect vintage watch for a beginner. gatorcpa
Cal 431 GC flagship ultrachron in excellent shape http://m.ebay.com/itm/271908901519Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network 4+ hrs left, less than 300usd. Gd luck folks!
