    I’ll have a stab. Probably wrong.

    Yes (@Canuck)
    No (@Charlemagne1333)

    First two pictures are clues to a first name, but not the person shown
    Second two pictures are the family name, not the name born as, but known as later.

    If the subject person is an Australian or from thereabouts, I’ll quit trying right now!

    OK, a clue.
    The person on the medal is not who we are looking for.

    Yes. That could be the correct answer, let me consult the judges.

    <drumroll>

    Well done Mike!
    ::psy::

    I thought it'd unravel quickly once I posted the Hughes Medal clue.

    When is a clue not really a clue? When you still don’t get it!

    I’m almost inclined to give @JimInOz a star for the effort. He aced every clue except #5 and #8. Mean of me, I know, but if I gave him a star, the rest of you would lose the incentive to finish the rebus. Who can finish the rebus by answering clues 5 and 8? If you read his answer, you might think he missed clue 4. He merged clue 3 and clue 4 to arrive at EDISON (eddy & son). So it is clue #5 I need an answer for. Also, he is out of step by one clue. It is NOT clue # 7 that needs an answer, but clue # 8. One clue. GOOGLE is your friend!
