Would anyone care to share with me the answer to the latest rebus? Is that Joan Collins? I see a ship in a body of water, and an image of someone I think is Joan Collins, and all I can think of is Collins Bay Penitentiary in Ontario (Canada). But I rather suspect that is not the answer.

Joan of Arc, namesake of that cruiser, apparently.

It is indeed.

Joan Collins

Electrical arc

The ship was a bit cheeky, but it resonated with me.

I was a very young sailor and had the pleasure of spending a day on the brand new French cruiser Jeanne d' Arc with some of the crew when the ship was on a tour of the South Pacific, I think about 1965.

Fast forward 50 years and an older sailor was on a river cruise on the Garonne River on the way back to Bordeaux after visiting one of the wine regions.
I was on the sun deck enjoying a cold beer when I noticed across the water, a familiar outline moored at the wharf at Bassens.
It was indeed the ship I had been on all those years ago, although it was a very sorry sight in 2015.

Sorry for the digression 😉.

@JimInOz is likely the only one who would have got that one! My question is, were we looking for the ship, or the girl who was burnt at the stake? Enquiring minds want to know.

I think the original intention was for us to identify the "Maid of Orleans" or more widely known as Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc).

Were you an Eastern Canuck rather than a Western Canuck, you would probably have twigged it straight away. 😉

That one would have defeated me, pure and simple. Being either an easterner, or westerner (which I am). Clever rebus, clever solve!

I’m out for the day. Betcha there won’t be an answer for this one by the time I get back. It could take up to 33 hours or so the pull this one off. This is a person, and that person is NOT shown in the clues!

Here are the clues (snicker, snicker!)

Based on the first three images I can see Charles Lindbergh, but I can’t see how the last three fit 😕

I think this one might require a collaborative solve?

Haha, I only got the first three using Google image search, so I wasn't sharing that. The last three I think are "leaves for Paris"

@Charlemagne1333 has all the components. @Olhenry56 and @Charlemagne1333 appear to have ignored the clue I gave in the original post. Collectively, the components are all there. Would someone care to fit the pieces together, and post the complete answer.

I figured the 33 hours was a clue, but my very limited brain space is too full up with other things for me to have recognized it at the time it took Lindbergh to make his historic flight. I will guess that the answer is Charles Lindbergh leaves for Paris, but I have a sneaking suspicion there is more to it since the answer should be a person and that's technically a sentence. Perhaps it's a person that he left to go to Paris.

Well, I’ll give the award to two of you. The answer is indeed:

Charles River = CHARLES
Jenny Lind = LIND
Alban Berg = BERG
Leaves = LEAVES
Fore = FOR
Purée =PAREE

Ergo: Charles Lindbergh leaves for Paris. By the way, it was 95 years ago, April 20, that he took off on his Paris trip, taking 33 hours and a few minutes.

Rebus puzzles do not necessarily commemorate an individual.

to @Charlemagne1333 and @Olhenry56 , the award:

There’s one member, in particular, who really ought to nab this one 😜

And perhaps the same member can tell us the significance of today’s date 😕

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The = THE
Royal flush = ROYAL
Canadian flag = CANADIAN
Girl on horse = MOUNTED
Police = POLICE

Canada’s version of the C I A in the U S A.

Monday, May 23, 2022, in Canada, is Victoria Day. Queen Victoria died on May 24, 1901. The Canadian Parliament established May 24 as Victoria Day, a statutory holiday in Canada. If May 24 happens on a Sunday, then Victoria Day is honoured on Monday, May 25. Victoria Day, 2022, takes place on Monday, May 23. So you might say that Victoria Day happens on the 4th Monday of May, each year.

Actually, there are many Canadians on the OB. Any one of us might have nabbed this rebus.

Good solve, well done.

And extra kudos for explaining the historical context 👍

Yes, there are many Canadians on here, but only one who solved the puzzle 😉

A meritorious mention to @JimInOz , as I suspect he was biting his lip…

Not particularly easy this one, I don’t think, so a few clues:

You’re looking for the name of a singer/songwriter and the title of a song from 1970.

The song was marketed, and accredited differently in certain markets, but most people will associate it with one particular person.

I see:

Marion Morrison aka John Wayne in el Alamo.
Lenny Bruce, comedian.
Nun- Sister Wendy Beckett.
Instant coffee, Nescafé.
Austin (Mini Cooper?).
Marjorie Main aka Ma Kettle (first name Phoebe in the series).
Statue (peeing).
Awl.
Sun.
Power.

Album Solar Power, featuring New Zealand singer/song writer, “Lorde”?

Aside from that, I got no answer!
