Rattling Speedmaster Pro

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here has had any issues with rattling noises coming from their speedy when shaking it? I tried googling around, and have the exact issue described in this OF thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-speedmaster-moonwatch-rattling.90875/, but it doesn't look like this issue was ever resolved by the OP. I've purchased 2 different speedys in the last couple of months, a used one that was originally purchased in 2016, and a brand new one purchased from an AD. Both speedys would rattle when I shook them, even with all springbars and bracelets removed, and the noise would change depending on how hard I shook the watch.

I contacted the AD and they're willing to replace my speedy with another one, but I'm a bit worried the replacement will have the same issue as I've had this problem twice in a row now. Can anyone comment on if this is just a poor manufacturing tolerance issue, or if I'm just getting unlucky with my purchases?

Thanks in advance!

It would help a lot if we knew exactly which Speedmaster(s) you have the concern with. If you have very sensitive hearing, there is a good chance you’ll hear noises from practically every one you try. Not just with the Speedmaster, but with every mechanical watch you shake! There is a very easy solution. Stop shaking your watch!

As @Archer said in the OF thread referenced above by OP,

There should not be a rattle coming from inside the watch.

If I were you, I'd insist on having the dealer's watchmaker open the case in front of you and explain the noise.

A manual wind should not make any noise. A co axial one will have some noise.

I bought the original speedy with the hesalite crystal (311.30.42.30.01.005) from Moyer Fine Jewelers in Indiana. Unfortunately I don't reside in the same state so I can't exactly have them open up the watch in front of me. I don't have particularly sensitive hearing (as far as I'm aware), and what Archer said in the referenced post is what got me a bit concerned in the first place. If the replacement also has the same issues I guess I might just have to accept the fact that Omega tolerances aren't as good as their marketing seems to indicate...
