Or worse. I recall a few years ago my wife snagged a 6694 precision from a lady that worked at the post office in Cebu City. Nice original watch but grungy as hell. It was her husband's watch and turned out he works in a funeral home. You never seen a watch so meticulously soaked and cleaned 😁

Hi Fred and thanks for the input, it is a valid discussion regarding the overall look of a watch that is 60+ years old.

I was not hung up by it though. As I wrote in the beginning, I fell in love with the piece and still feel super attracted towards it, with or without the original brushed finishing. The overall looks of the watch were still appealing to me.

The main worry was if I was missing something like a false hand or lume because it looked indeed like a bargain.
I know what you mean, because I felt in love with C-shape Connie 168.029 with silver linen dial.
Although still very much newbie I agree with the wiser folks here. For 400 EUR it is bargain and you should not have any problems in selling it for parts if there are some major flaws hidden by low quality photos. Reference and movement adds up to my knowledge.
I would say shot from the hip and enjoy.

Hey guys, thanks again for taking the time and sharing your thoughts on this piece and on collecting in general. It is really great to have this community and space and having different perspectives on a topic like case condition does provide a lot of insight!

I did pull the trigger a few hours ago, which after some negotiation costed me even less, around 370€.

Can't wait to wear the hell out of this watch! 😗 will take a while though 🤔

Congrats on a great pick-up. Love my slate dialed Connie and wore it today in your honor.

And of course- the case finishes

I too believe in keeping it “as found”. 😎

Thanks! Will do. I can't wait for it to arrive, as no one knows for sure how exactly the watch or it's aging or patina actually looks like. It is even fun and feels quite like a gamble, but at this price and with we can tell from the poor fotos, for sure a safe one!

The pics were good enough to know it was all there and a bargain. I have been pleasantly surprised by some with shitty pics that were stunning when they arrived.

Ohh, that usually takes time... I bought almost every vintage piece I own from an open online market in my homecountry Brazil. They don't ship it directly to Europe.

I have them sent to my family and I then I have it sent to Europe. That usually takes time, specially under Covid. The watch did arrive at my parents' home and now they have sent it to Germany. Usually with customs and stuff it will take some more weeks, for sure.

I tried and asked my father to take a picture, but he is not much skilled... He managed to make video though.

Sweet deal for €370. I wouldn't even mind the polishing at that price, as the reflections still look straight and correct (once the facets get rounded I always pass).
Love how your dad is not skilled enough to take a photo and send it to you but can take a nice video and upload it to youtube!

Thanks! Yeah, I am very much looking forward to see it myself live and wear the heck out of it.

He did manage to shoot a great video with his phone (I uploaded it to youtube for this post). The problem with his fotos though, well... They always turn out like this:
