I agree that the B01 is quite pretty. Out of curiosity, could you elaborate about what makes their newer movement good?
I think the movement is the same B01 used in the Navitimer. The B01 movement packs in 70h power reserve, vertical clutch, column-wheel etc. When I stated "top notch", it was in the context of the sub US$10K price point for the watch. The Speedy 9900 caliber offers superior anti-magnetic capabilities and some other bells and whistles including the METAS certification. The Rolex 4130 is reliable, accurate, robust/well constructed and apparently easy to service. I am no watchmaker so I will defer to Al Archer (et al) for a more detailed movement comparison.

My personal take is that I would not consider any of the movements so significantly superior to the other as to influence the purchasing decision.

Both beautiful watches but I have always like Speedmasters over Daytonas. I also like the classic two register dial.

I like the new breitling watches. I have to say though, I’d have this over a Daytona any day. I was actually thinking about this the other day.

My problem with the Daytona is it's far too small for a chronograph, not so much the case size (on the small side) but the dial size : 28mm is not enough to fit three legible sub dials with all the text on top IMHO. Not a fan of the fat bezel either. The Speedy Racing on the other hand offers a much larger and cleaner dial with a thinner bezel, gives it more amplitude, doesn't feel cramped. I can understand why people with smaller wrists prefer smaller watches but there's an inherent design flaw with the Daytona's tiny dial in my view. You get the same dial size as in their 34mm Oyster Perpetual which is ridiculous.

As for Breitling, I sold my Superocean Heritage two years ago for several reasons. I kept a Seawolf, my badass diver. I like the Premier line with the twin register clean look. However, without the hour register it's only a 30min chrono which is sub-par and doesn't justify a 10k price to me. In the Speedy Racing, you get a full 12 hours chrono in a single larger sub dial which can also be used as a second time zone. Same clean look but much more advanced, genius. I actually like using a chrono to time my commute between 45 and 75 min. depending on traffic and routes.

The Rolex is thicker? The omega is 15mm and Rolex is 12.2...

Agree the dial is too small for Daytona!

If they added as second, smaller size to the co-axial Speedmaster line, I think they would have a massive hit on their hands.

Two things I have a really hard time understanding:
a) The mystique around the Rolex Daytona.
b) The obsession about DON speedmaster bezels.

a) If it weren't for Paul Newman, there wouldn't be any mystique. Daytonas sold so badly when they first came out, they ended up getting issued by Rolex dealers to customers who were having their own watches serviced, like a garage would send out a courtesy car.
b) Me neither!

I’ve always lived the Daytona, but when ai finally could affors one I was quite dissapointed with how dainty it was on the wrist. Felt more like a dress watch than a sports watch!

Ended up buying the Speedy Racing (along with a PO chrono with the change) 😝

I still want a Daytona though. But now lower down my wish list. I think a Sea Dweller or sub will be my Rolex vice if i can ever be bothered

Haha

I love the size of racing. It could be thinner for some though. 40mm is way too small for me!

The Omega looks absolutely huge compared to the Daytona in the photos earlier in this discussion.

How about something like this as a tie-breaker? Think of what you could buy with the money saved.

Cool damn watch for $2k, ya gotta admit...

I've had a chance to try on both and the height and overall size of the Omega is too much for my chicken wrists. The 40 mm, thinner Daytona sits perfectly and my wrist doesn't feel too encumbered.

Another lovely option, if you can find it, is the Seiko 6138-8020 Panda. Value, looks, great linen dial.

Of course if I was offered the Daytona they couldnt take my money fast enough 😁

That Hamilton looks really nice. The Speedy Racing is in another league though.

The Speedy looks better on 6.5in and above I think. Here's mine on my 18cm/7in wrist.
