Question Regarding A Seamaster Quartz Movement

Greetings ladies and gents!!! I have a Seamaster Professional 200MM watch. The second hand started skipping, time for a new battery. Several years ago the movement was replaced. The only markings on the movement are 'V8 Swiss Movement, 6 jewels." I didn't see any Omega symbol on the movement anywhere. Do you think this is an Omega movement, or some type of ETA??? Thank you!!

Photos would help. Are you talking about the 200m Pre Bond from circa 1990 or an earlier watch? The quartz movements used on Omega watches since the early 1980s were made by ETA, though usually Omega marked too so they can look very similar. If indeed the movement were replaced with the non Omega equivalent, it is not the end of the world, they are likely the same, minus the text.

ps an Omega 200mm watch would be either very large or have a very low depth rating!

Omega used the 255.xxx series of Eta quartz movements with the Omega symbol and caliber printed on the gold plated brass cover over the circuit board of their calibre 1420. Had the original circuit failed, it might have been replaced with the generic Eta equivalent circuit, and the brass movement cover omitted. Or perhaps The whole movement might have been replaced with the Eta calibre. Only real difference is the marking, and the Omega calibre looked fancier.

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. The watch may be Pre Bond, it's probably a 34 MM case, looks "small" by today's standards. When the back was off I looked at the movement with a loupe, I don't remember a brass cover. I am positive though that there was no Omega logo anywhere visable. I bought it for a song with a non working movement, so regardless of the maker of the movement, no biggie!!! Thanks again.

Without your having posted a picture, my reply was made having had to assume what movement is in the watch. Here are two pictures, one of the Omega 1420, and the other of the Eta 955.411. These are interchangeable. Try posting a picture of the mechanism so we can eliminate all this guesswork.

Okay so if it's a pre-Bond at 34 mm, it's probably something like this:

Ref. 28805000, and will have a Cal. 1424. No brass movement cover, but the Omega symbol and caliber will be on the circuit:

Cheers, Al

Thank you, it looked like the one on the right. I have the photography talent of a snail with half it's brain removed, thus you've never seen any pics posted by me. Maybe I'll work on that talent in my old age!!

Yep, that's it. The movement though isn't the Omega marked one, must be the ETA. Thanks for your assistance!!

Well, could be a full movement swap if something went wrong, or could be that just the circuit was changed...

Cheers, Al
