The world today is expected to use a CC when purchasing items, only a mom and pop type shop should be concerned about the fee. An Omega Boutique or AD should accept a CC as matter of policy. Seems like poor business form.

This is 2019 and credit cards are the norm...... no reason it's not accepted especially for an expensive item. Personally I wouldn't go thru the bank wire process unless it's the only way and the deal is too good to pass up....... and I've never done a bank wire if you catch what I'm saying 😉

I'm sure they are happy to take c/c in store. Just not over a phone call.
Payments are made to Swatch Group UK, not the individual store.

Fully agree - seems very backwards to me...

I did it with both speedytuesday and the ultraman. Paid in full collected the watches when I was in the country. My speedytuesday was in the shop for many months before it was collected. No problems at all.
my friend did the same.

I factor the 2% reward I get on CC as part of the discount.

Mom n pop I can live with it but for a big company that’s just normal business.

If they said cash only to me I would ask for an additional 3% off yes I said 3 as the 1% extra is for my inconvenience lol

I deal with an OB and always pay by credit card in advance for the watch and then drive in to pick it up at my convenience.Sometimes month later.
An organization of the Swatch groups size is not about to go broke and take your money.
Just do it.

I don't think that's the suggestion being made really, at least not at this point. To me it seems like amateur hour to not take a credit card, but aside from that purchasing the watch by credit card offers advantages that a wire simply does not.

Not sure why the OP hasn't been back and clarified this but, I confirmed the details of the Swatch bank account for him by PM (his question number 2).

If he took his option number 2 (delivered to his address) then it is probably on the way there.

Cheers, Chris

In my opinion, it makes sense to ask you to wire, but I would make sure that you are dealing with who you think you are dealing with. My thoughts: It's a limited edition piece that lots of people want. Additionally, they would want to protect themselves with a wire transfer as they are holding it for you and aren't sure if you would change your mind later on.

Hello people. So I sent money to Omega by bank transfer in the end. Not ideal or my preferred option but I did more checking and research and thanks more to the members of this forum (thanks @ChrisN) than Omega/Swatch group was happy I was actually sending the money to a legit source. That was the only issue with doing the wire. I’m still as baffled as most others as to why they don’t take credit card.

I chose not to get the watch delivered as I thought I’d see what the whole boutique collection experience is like so it’s being held for me until I can make it to collect. Tiny bit of me thinking that I’ll turn up and they’ll say “what watch?”

Thanks for everyone’s input and hopefully this post has helped others too

Glad it worked out for you in the end! Be sure to share some pictures of your new watch when you pick it up. 😉

If it's Regent St Boutique you're absolutely right.

I'm sure you understand English as well as anyone here Al.
The OP's thread was primarily asking whether he was being scammed, and then the thread was quickly taken over by members who have literally been here on the forum for about five minutes criticizing Omega boutiques for not accepting credit card payments, which is clearly not the case. The OP had the option, the same as I did, of going to the boutique and paying for the watch by whatever method he chose, or reserving the watch by paying SwatchGroup UK by bank transfer, and picking up the watch or having it delivered at his leisure.
In my case they wouldn't send my watch to my nearest AD because it involved Air mail and I had to travel to London to pick up the watch.

Threads here often drift - I'm sure you understand that as well as anyone here. Yes the OP's questions were answered early on, and the thread moved on from there - again nothing unusual here.

It is clearly the case that the Omega would not take a credit card payment over the phone for this watch, which I and others find strange. If you find it somehow offensive that some here find that strange, well not sure what to say really. Buying via credit card over the phone is so common it's odd that Omega would not accept it as a form of payment...

I think the chances of getting scammed are low. But the reason why credit cards are better is for the added safety. If identity theft occurs with a credit card, you can dispute charges far easier. It's about the vulnerability of private info you disclose.
