I like how the orange is in the hands instead of on the indices or dial like on a lot of seamasters.

That ‘Flightmaster’ is powered by an 861…I guess that means the 24h hand doesn’t really work…? Or did they also modify the movement?

I find it very strange that in the Flightmaster book there are well documented Flightmaster prototypes from as early as 1967 which look very, very similar in case and dial design as to what would eventually become the finished product a couple of years later.

With the progressive development of those first prototypes to the finished article in the years 67-69 I feel it is now a big ask to accept that somewhere in 1968 (the Speedmaster is a 145.012-68) in the middle of all that ongoing development Omega decided to completely reverse tack from their by now well developed design and make this 'unique' prototype based on a Speedmaster case and dial.

I'm no Speedmaster or Flightmaster expert so these are just the musings of a layman but I'd be very curious what Gregoire Rossier and Anthony Marquie have to say about this supposed 'missing link' 😒

<Dubious Speculation>

Could this 'Flightmaster' perhaps be the long lost cousin of this beaut?

That is, the prototype with LE number 28 and 'the flag on the United-Stated' on the caseback "to commemorate the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center 9.11"?

Maybe some magic of the 'big cheese' 'kingpin' types?

Interesting. I missed that previous thread.

Looks like a bunch of members chipped in to buy the extract for that watch. Good idea. After reading the extract, it made me wonder how outrageous of a "prototype" watch we/someone could make and still get Omega to issue an extract for it based on the input they receive from the maker? That extract leaves a person scratching their head about Omega's records department. Definitely smells cheesy.
