Both are great watches, difficult to be objective with this stuff considering a $100 gshock tells time more accurately, will last longer, and is considerably more durable.

I've got to disagree with the longevity aspect.
A Gshock will have stopped for reasons unknown due to something going wrong with the inards. Thus the watch needing to be replaced. They are literally a throw away item after all.
The Speedy will still be going for many years afterward with proper maintenance.
One may even regard them as being an heirloom quality timepiece.

Besides, the Gshock will cease to function entirely in the cold of space and that's one of the key reasons why the Speedy Pro is approved for EVA'S😉

That looks like a Paul Newman right? Never seen one in person, but I've listened to people go bananas for them.

I thought "Meh" about the PN until I saw one in the metal. Circumstances were that I could have tried it on, but selling my house to buy one watch was not really on the cards, so I declined. Even better, in the next cabinet was a pre-Daytona that was that close to my Carrera loving heart. It was going to cost two houses 🙁 But if the opportunity arises a good look at a PN will lift your heart -- and make you wish you'd gone for a better paying career.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the fact that the Speedmaster is a design classic….. up there with the Rayban aviators, the Jaguar E type (XKE) the glass coke bottle etc. and as such will never go outta style!

I guarantee you if you spend a thousand dollars on maintenance for a gshock at the same service interval of a speedmaster, the gshock will certainly outlive the speedmaster. I don't think gshocks are built to be disposable - I've had mine for decades with no service and it's working great! I know others with gshocks as well with similar experiences.

fwiw, I love the speedmaster and wouldn't wear a gshock in place of it, but sometimes I think it's good to have perspective on wearing antiquated technology!

Maybe - who knows if there are repair parts/circuit boards/etc. even available for G-shocks over time. I think they are meant to be somewhat disposable, given no one is going to be spending a thousand dollars to repair a watch that cost a couple hundred. Not dissing G-shocks - I'm a fan - but I struggle with categorizing them as any kind of heirloom timepiece.

Personally, what I'd find more annoying is having to unscrew the pushers every time I want to use the chronograph.
There is no need to keep the Daytona's chrono collars screwed down. None. They don't add anything to its WR, the collars are only there to prevent pushing a button under water. I always leave them unscrewed, ready for action. And they look better that way, too.

Have to agree with this. Virtually anything made with an electronic circuit will eventually fail. And all plastics degrade and become brittle. I love the G-Shock, but it’s no Speedmaster.

Ok, i totally get the WR capabilities of the Daytona pushers but it seems as though a Seamaster diver chrono pushers are WR when pushed under water so why not the Daytona.
But by your account, it seems as though the screw down component of those pushers is completely redundant👎
I'm seriously confused.
Isn't the Daytona supposed to be technically superior in every respect when compared to the antiquated Omega offering.

Are they there to add some manner of structural support to the pushers?
Perhaps to protect them from inadvertent snagging or a sideways knock?

But it's probably a step or two up from a Moonswatch🙁

Yes, I'd have to agree.

A lot of collectors would rather buy a pre-2000 Daytona (if they could afford one) to a modern Daytona well aware that the older one used the El Primero (laterally clutched) movement.

So the Zenith El Primero will beat both Daytona and Speedy with it`s automatic 36.000 b/h, no screw down pushers and optional date and case shape ?
Well, 2nd best isn`t to shabby 😁

Just FYI - Rolex reduced the beat rate when they used the El Primero, so it was a 28,800 A/hr movement in that instance.

As Al said earlier, just buy what you like.

Me? I lean towards this kind of aesthetic:

This one? Not so much.

So glad you said that, brought this home (UK) from Florida in about 1990!

Yes. And consider also the Movado Datron El Primero .... 🍿

👍
You probably meant the Movado Datachron HS360 automatic chronograph 😉
