Production date of modern Speedmasters

How do you tell the year a modern Speedmaster Professional was built? For example differentiate a 2017, from 2018, from 2019?

I think there was a thread before about someone noticing the location of the omega globe hallmark across different years of the modern speedy. That might help.

They changed the caseback about 2 years ago. Otherwise no changes for about 5 plus years.

Would an extract of the archive give the year it was made?
Extracts are only for watches over 20 years old or so.

does the serial # start with a 7 or 8? that's the first step.

Not sure that would help you. Speedy serials have been on 77-79m for the past 10-15 years and are still AFAIK in the high 78-79m range. 78m alone spans around 5 or 6 years if my data is correct. I am not aware of any 80m+ Speedmaster serials yet, but if there are they would be very recent watches indeed, no earlier than 2019. Even if there was close correlation with date and serial on the recent watches, you would need to look at the 3rd and even 4th digit to fathom out the pattern.

they are on the 8's. thought it started in 2017 or 2018 based on sales listings i've seen.

Not to my knowledge, other Omegas are up as high as 90m but not the 1861 Speedmasters. Can you show me links? Are you referring to non 1861 movement watches?

I have 3 1861 movement Speedmasters between 2017 and 2019 all on 78.7 to 78.9m.

Nope, what serials are those seen in? Maybe they have jumped again like they did from 4Xm to 7Xm a while back.

now that you mention it, i have only been looking at sapphire sandwich 1863 models. they are on at least 877.
