Fantastic info, @o.m.e.g.a , We are planning the Bernina express but the opposite way, leaving from Tirano and eventually ending up in Zurich. Would you recommend overnight in Chur or somewhere else between Tirano and Zurich? We really don't want to travel too much in one day but don't want to lug baggage around more than necessary.

Hello @UncleBuck
I like Chur - it's a small, very old city. IMHO one afternoon+evening is enough but I'm spoiled... ;-)
I would recommend to book a hotel inside old town. My hotel was Ambiente Hotel Freieck.

One of the great things about Swiss railway is that usually you can check-in your big bags on one station and collect on another. Just like with airlines. This allows to travel lightly and have overnights in the middle of the trip just with cabin luggage. Make sure to check if this service is actually available on your itinerary.

Planning a trip to Northern Italy/Switzerland for my 50th, so marking this thread.
Quadrophenic-Schizophrenia.

You鈥檒l see some lovely areas in Switzerland then. Lugano is a must, obviously. Locarno will inevitably come up in your searches but I was never too impressed. Very close to Locarno (an easy local bus trip) though is Ascona which, though small is utterly gorgeous.

Hey fellow crazy watch people. I am planning a trip to Switzerland and am looking for some guidance from those who have been there.

We are looking to go between the middle of March and the middle of May.

I would like to visit the following museums
Omega Museum
MIH Museum
Mus茅e d鈥橦orlogerie du Locle
Longines Museum

I think I have narrowed my trip options to the following 2

Option: Trip 1
Fly into and spend 2-3 days in Zurich
Spend 2-3 days in the Saint-Imier, and Biel/Bienne and go to Museums
Spend 2-3 days in Geneva
Fly home

After further research Bern and Lucerne are supposed to be really nice.

Option: Trip 2
Chose 1 and fly into either Geneva or Zurich and spend 2-3 days.
Spend 2-3 days in the Saint-Imier, and Biel/Bienne and go to Museums
Spend 2-3 days in Bern or Lucerne
Fly home

Beyond watch stuff, we love the outdoors, nature, walking, hiking.

If I can only go to one, would it be Zurich or Geneva?
Is Bern or Lucerne worth visiting?

Look for all advice and guidance.

I loved Geneva and seeing all the watch stores. I really enjoyed the city.

Massive necro post. How did this go? How were the museums? Which ones are good and which ones aren't worth the time?

Funny how tastes differ, I stopped by Zurich for two nights on the way from Northern Italy to Paris, and found it too long.
Some nice watch stores and magnificent Chagall stained glasses in the cathedral - that was it for me.

I prefer Geneva much more, with the old city full of history and the unmissable Patek Philippe museum.

In La Chaux de Fond /Neuchatel / Saint Imier also tons of history, La Chaux de Fond deserves a good day to do a walking tour of the 芦 horological urbanism 禄 of the city, and the MIH also outstanding.
For those who like architecture, must check out the houses Le Corbusier built in his youth.

I can definitely recommend visiting both from the above.
