Good morning all (at least on the US eastern coast). I’ve been stalking around for a while now, digging through advice, good finds and bad, interesting information, and plenty more. So grateful for this site and everyone on it! I recently found a watch that I’m head over heels in love with, but I’ve had a heck of a time finding anything similar to compare it to! Hoping you fine folks might be able to provide some feedback.

Here’s what’s listed.

1949 Omega Bumper, 351, gold filled snapback case, and not much else!!

It’s listed on Chrono24 for 1100, which I would work down, but basically my aim would be to wear this watch pretty regularly, as I’m certainly no collector and am just getting into learning this world!

Let me hear your thoughts! And cheers to a snowy Sunday.

Hi Lauren, welcome to OF 😀

Value is hard to advise about (though we do it all the time), as the objects of our hobby are basically only as expensive as we collectively decide them to be. In this case, someone not too concerned over originality etc. might find the price reasonable while collectors will shun it. On this site, I suspect you'll find only the latter.

The dial has been very poorly restored at some point, the case is heavily worn and there is no chance it is a reference 2577 as the seller says - that reference is very different. To a collector, this will have only the value of parts whjch is very little.

Hope you stick around and if you decide to look for a different watch feel free to post it here for scrutiny. I can tell that you've done some basic research, keep on doing that and you'll soon find that it seldom is particularly hard to tell if something is an interesting find or something most will avoid.

CEP beat me to it. That's one of those watches you'd learn to love less as you got to know it...🙁

Yes, because of the reprinted dial, it's not a watch that the collectors on this site will recommend, and certainly greatly overpriced relative to real market value. More generally, if you are going to wear a watch regularly, you might want to look for a "gold capped" case instead of gold filled.

Ah, okay. Makes sense, and that’s good to know. Thank you!

Welcome Lauren,

As we tend to advise every newcomer who has “caught the bug”- measure twice, cut once. Eventually you will be able to spot the good ones at a glance.

The sales section here is a great place to shop- you are bound to find several there that meet your style, and you can PM any seller- you don’t need 200 posts for that.
Welcome to OF.

I’ve recently come across the saying “measure once, cuss twice”, which also works wonderfully
