I’ve been charging the lume with my mobile phone light.
The watch doesn’t look great under this harsh light. Is this the sort of thing you are talking about?

Yeah I suppose, but then who's really looking at your watch in a situation like that? It's more when out and about in the sunshine that it bugs me.

OP, give 2500 a shot perhaps ? I went through the same process comparing all generations of PO and decided that the matte dial and the thin profile of 2500 is the way to go.

Yeah, I probably should give one of the 2500 PO's a go! If I end up selling my 8900, it'll be on my list of potential replacements for sure!

I have the original 2500 and the LMLE 2500, but I'm definitely partial to the matte dial on the non-LE.

After owning a few matte dial PO's, and a 300mc, I found the glossy dials on the newer versions hard on the eyes. I ended up getting a blue Tudor Pelagos instead of a Ti PO.

Yeah I've been browsing the pelagos and black bay the last couple of days, they are growing on me faster than my moobs!

The only thing is, I don't know whether they appeal to me because of the Seiko Sea Urchin I have as my beater... Its not a million miles away from the pelagos (although it is a million times cheaper!)

No, I believe its the previous gen PO's, which have the 8500 movement. They had ceramic bezels but matte dials I believe.
8500 Ti PO
Highly glossy dial

Yeah.... But let's be honest... No one actually bought one of those did they.

And if you want to be pedantic...

I love my 8500 dial It looks amazingmost of the time. The thing I hate about my PO is the bezel. It has a lot of play and has been sent for repair once and returned misaligned. Then a watchmaker at the OB in san antonio corrected the misalignment but it went back to flimsy. Now the hour hand won't go past 9:00 and the jump hour function is not working. I've really had very bad luck with my watch. I sent it to omega last week again. Lets see how it returns.

I know you were. But I think you're missing the point. Someone was asking what were the last PO's to have matte dials, to which I replied the 8500's.

The run of the mill black dial 8500's have matte dials do they not? We know there are versions of the 8500 that have glossy dials, just as there are versions of the 2500's that do too! So I don't really get the point you were trying to make??

I didn’t know there were versions of the 8500 that had matte dials. I stand corrected.

Here's a couple of pics I've just taken which kind of show the point, but I think sometimes the dial looks even worse tbh.

Nice light:

Brighter light, and not catching the dial nicely:

You've just described why I sold my LMLEPO, It looks great in 99% of pics posted, but the reality on the wrist and in normal light is very different. I've written a longer thread about that on here a year or so ago. It's the most photogenic watch Omega ever made as this site is testament to, but the pics don't show the real story. Not that it's not a great looking watch, it is, but I prefer the original version, and so sold that one. I don't know if you've had it long enough to sell it yet? I'm sure there are owners who disagree, the same as there are owners who will disagree with you about this one, it's all down to personal taste, but if you don't dig, get rid. The original 8500 may suit you more, the blue in this thread is the Ti, so not the standard matte dial/bezel. You may have same problems with any shiny dial and shiny ceramic bezel watch though, if that's your thing.

Despite being a very happy owner of a 2500 PO, I think the best looking dials were on the matte 8500 POs. When I owned one, I never got bored of that dial. It looked great all the time. The only issue with it was that I had the 45.5mm version..

I know what you mean.
The 8900 is really hard to take good photos of.
I like the dial, but is it TOO shiny?
The polished hands, index, numbers, logo AND glossy dial...
I loved my PO8900 but sold it and now I’m looking for a PO2500 (42mm) to compare.

Everyone has different tastes; I found the diver Seamaster prior to 2018 look a little more like a standard watch, but the newer one with its shinier bezel to standout out more and it looks like a higher end watch. Besides the better movement and being able to see the movement from the back, I like the shiny bezel. I feel the same way about the planet ocean watch. It just stands out more like a beautiful piece of jewelry that just attracts your eye.

Yeah I agree, the new SMP's are quite stunning to look at. I had a closer look at them when I was buying my PO. I'm really not sold on the HE valve though, or the bigger size than previous gen. If it wasn't for those things, I may have gone for one (probably the black) instead of the PO.
