PLS HELP IDENTIFY my first ever Omega

Greetings, fellow Omega enthusiasts!

I'm delighted to have found this forum!

I've embarked on an incredible journey of horological discovery, having recently acquired a vintage Omega Automatic Seamaster wristwatch, intended as a gift for my boyfriend. He complained that it looks ridiculous on his arm, being so small (34mm, excl crown) but to me it's an absolute classic look!

It has no papers or box and there aren't many watchmakers in my area who are keen to open it up for me...(Why?). I've seen the YouTube videos on how to do it and it is certainly seems best left to a qualified processional. The only 3 official Omega-recommended watchmakers/dealers in my area's fees are currently somewhat out of my budget.

Loving all the knowledge I've gained thus far but find it impossible to find one that matches mine. I found an EXCELLENT article that pretty much sums it all up:
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/appreciating-a-34mm-omega-seamaster

But still, that watch dial is not the same as mine, neither is the strap.

PLEASE have a look at the pictures and be so kind to help me out with your educated opinions/guidance.

Looking forward to this journey!

Have a GREAT day and thanks for taking the time to read my request.

Hi and welcome!

Others will tell you more about your watch, what I can tell you is that the crown is incorrectly replaced and the dial is not in the original condition, either repainted or replaced.

Very nice original Omega bracelet from 1961 worth several hundred USD

What a shame: someone cut the endlinks to 18mm otherwise the endlinks alone would be worth more than 1000 USD

I'm sure you will get more infos soon!

EDIT: Reference number of the watch could be 14701

Umm...

How much was the watch?

Everything looks good (apart from the incorrect service crown, but that is a minor issue), including that quite expensive bracelet which is probably a fair bit more valuable than the watch.

The dial is an unmarked, white textured variant which is very cool - I would say that you have an eye for finding watches 馃榿

@Passover what is the issue with the dial? It is certainly not redialed, but is it incorrect to the watch?

Bracelet looks like a transitional 7077 (short clasp and single stretch links)

14701 is the date version of the 14700. Neither of which is the correct ref here, although I'm not sure what the ref is

Possibly a 2975? I don't think it is a cal. 55X - the textured dial suggest a 5XX to me.

I had expected an coathanger S but I may be wrong with that,

Thank you for correcting me with my reference number guess! 馃憤

That is quite a bracelet to find on that watch, especially with those end links but such a shame they look like they鈥檝e been modified but they鈥檙e still valuable. Watches like this with Speedmaster donor bracelets pop up on eBay from time to time and just go *poof* moments after listing due to how many people are hunting for them.

Yeah I'd agree not likely a 55x due to case shape and dial style and I think you're on the right track for the ref but I can't find one with shark tooth markers...

i think it's a manual watch, 3-6-9-12 dial looks good to me, all hands' length well within the markers, and yes, bracelet is more expensive than the head.

Hmm, I wonder what that 'Automatic' on the dial means then? 馃槈馃榿
