I see those sale with "0" reply pretty easy. No hard to skip the ones with 37 bumps. Some heads stay thick a long time. 🙄

Mods 😀thumbsup😀 got no time to thin them - would be a 24/7 employ.

Thank you, although I personally stay away from editing the sales forums.

The listings are vetted before the are allowed to be seen. What happens after that is up to you, the members.

Main reason is that to implement some of these ideas, good as they are, would take a lot of time to sort and delete offending threads.

We are all volunteers here.

This is what I was thinking as I was reading all the good suggestions. Not practical for the mods. Even just policing the rules as they stand is a lot of work, which is the original point of this thread.

I'm good with that. I'd also like to be the one who does the listing vetting. I know it's a thankless job, done by volunteers but there are an awful lot of ads without prefixes, information about the watch and many other things that don't follow the listing rules, that get approved.

Maybe it is a dumb idea, but why allow empty bumps in the first place? How about only allowing bumps when the price is lowered, or when the ad is properly edited (meaningful info added for example)?

In theory, that's a good idea but I'm not sure the software can be that discriminating. Then you'll have to have a staff member playing whack a mole all day long. I wouldn't sign up for that.

I think - but I may be just plain wrong - that it is possible to implement a filter : a required minimum of a few words, I think I have been on a forum where you could only post 50 characters or more, for example. No idea if it can be done in OF's software.

I agree that if it can't be automatically/easily done, it would not be practical to enforce.

Because “friends” can always say nice watch or good luck with the sale and bump without bumping.

oh man could you imagine the worthless fluff and patently contrived script that would generate vs merely the word "bump"? 😁

If you make 75 words minimum, it will be much more funny to read than pages of bumps 😁😜

"all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" for example...

I am at GMT +1, what's your time zone? 😀

Anyway, I don't spend a lot of time reading sales listings, but I do move on most of the watches I sell or trade via OF. I would really like to see a change in the approval process, where the mod approving the listing would bump it afterwards. Why? Because I take an unreasonable amount of pride in seeing how fast I can get a sale through (two or three minutes is the current record for me) and after the vetting process was introduced, this now takes forever. Vain, moi?

A second issue with the vetting is that I usually post items for sale in the evening due to chores/work/whatever and the approval usually comes at such a late hour that when it is introduced to the latest feed it will be at the middle or bottom and few people will see it before I go to bed.
I will then wake up to either several PMs inquiring about the item which I cannot answer as I have to go to work, or no interest at all, in which case I have to wait until evening before bumping it. Cue the previous situation. Add to that the time difference between me a prospective buyer and I will often answer PMs when those members have gone to bed themselves and process is further delayed...

Petty and vain annoyances for sure, and I hate myself for bringing them up 😬

Regarding bumps, has anyone noticed the no-post-count Sam881 hits the like button to many bump posts?

maybe the word bump has another meaning in some languages? 😁
