Looks like an early plated Seamaster DeVille from circa 1962.

bs is a strong term but that model with its front loader case wasn’t seen until the early 1960s. It’s not a 50s watch.

Family histories often get slightly distorted over the years. The watch is legit, regardless of when it was purchased.

How old is your grandfather? I'm seeing a lot of assumptions being made.

Edit: My father graduated in 1955, and he's currently 83 years old.
