I am not a huge fan of the Datejust...a bit dull/meh/ubiquitous, but between the two specific options you have selected I do think it would be the better option for a one watch collection.

As the Squirrel posted, the AT in SS would be a better all rounder and lower cost than the model you have chosen.

Only when you have the watches on your wrist will you know for sure...at most we on the OF can suggest alternative options for evaluation and I would include the blue dial Globemaster and the JLC Master Control Date sector dial or black dial in your shortlist (I am assuming that a date function is a key requirement for you).

My personal preference would be the Globemaster.

But my first choice will always be the Speedmaster Professional

Just had to throw that in there, didn't you. 🙄 Not one person, not the OP nor ANYONE ELSE in this thread, asked about a Speedmaster, yet you HAD TO MENTION it. 🤦

Based on your comments, it seems you like the Omega better. Go with what you like best and do not worry about perception. Resale shouldn’t be much of a factor since you do not plan to sell. Plus, if you get a Rolex down the line someday, you’ll have a nice, diverse collection.

EVERYBODY QUICK! Post photos of your Speedys and turn this thread into something interesting 😁

To the OP, I find the two tone Omega AT hidious beyond belief. I would go for a Datejust, preferably a slightly older one like a 16234 from when they actually looked elegant. But if it was a new one I would still pick it over the AT.

How about a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 14300. They are nice. I really like the new white dial but all dial colours look good actually. Plus way less xpensive than a DJ

Resale of a particular watch should not keep you from buying that watch, but if a watch drops in value then it makes it worthwhile to consider buying slightly used in order to buy at a lower price.

I bought a Rolex new at an AD because the resale was strong and I couldn't get it for less used. The high resale value did not influence me in getting the watch, but it did convince me to buy new.

I bought 2 Omegas used because I could get them for a lower price (model name withheld to avoid nonsense). The lower resale did not keep me from getting the watch, but did convince me to buy used.

If you have no interest in 'reading' what the OP wrote, why bother 'writing' something completely unrelated and irrelevant? The OP stated clearly he does not want a 'sporty looking' watch... 🤔
Background: This is my 1st watch purchase. I am not and don't see myself as a watch person. I just want to get a nice all rounder, everyday watches that will see my decades. Having said that, I am not into sporty looking watches.

Posting entirely random responses to a very clear and concise question has nothing to do what watch is mentioned... 😉

+1 Globemaster. IMO opinion it's the most versatile of those mentioned here. Do a search on this forum for Globemaster, or head over to the WRUW thread to see some amazing Globemaster shots. If you get a nice strap to go along with the bracelet, it can be worn with almost anything.

My first post was for a +1 Globemaster. Sorry I ruined your day with my opinion...

Out of the two you have posted I would pick the Datejust but’s that because I’m not a fan of that particular AT.

Like others have suggested, don’t discount the SS AT, pre-owned will leave you with some money towards the Sub you’re after!

Your opinion on the DateJust versus Aqua Terra is quite welcome as the OP is soliciting thoughts on those two watches. Sadly, you didn't give an opinion on either. Apparently, owning a Speedmaster affects reading comprehension.

He also wrote that all suggestions are welcome if you would have read the OP's post completely.

And suggestions must always be in the form of Speedmaster. So you got it right om the second try, not bad IMO 😁

Well done!

I'm having a great day, not sure why you bring this up... but then, I guess you like to post random thoughts not related to what anyone has said...

Doesn't that make the bread soggy?

I like cantaloupe.
