Hi all,

This Constellation has come up for auction and I'm considering making an offer, as such I thought I'd turn to you and your expertise for advice.

Any thoughts on this piece? There seems to be a slight mark at the top left between the 11-12 indices and the star at the base has rotated. Also the back observatory emblem is silver not gold.

Unfortunately there aren't any photos of the movement but I could ask the seller... but I have the feeling they're not entirely capable of opening it without damaging something.

How does this watch look to your trained eyes? Anything suspicious? Anything to be wary of?

Thanks in advance.

This looks like a Ref. 14902. Pretty much identical to the 168.005, except for the two line Omega text on the dial.

Everything looks correct here, including the silver integral medallion and thin 10-sided crown.

As you pointed out, a little damage to the dial. This looks to be a nice honest watch with normal wear. But looks can be deceiving.

All comes down to price with this one. You will need to account for two things, first the dial damage which should knock down the price a couple of hundred dollars and second, the uncertainty of not seeing the movement. It should be a cal. 561, but there are several other incorrect calibers that would fit.

Seems polished some as facets on lugs not sharp. The star is a little rotated. Don't pay too much.

Thanks for all your feedback, I really appreciate it. The seller has set a starting bid of €1500 and a 'buy now' price of €2000... given your feedback I'll probably stay away from this auction. Thanks again for all your insights! ❤️

Yes that price seems high. For that I would want a clean dial, sharp case, no calendar and nice bracelet.

I don't think any of these artifacts are on the dial but I didn't keep a good look

The turned stars are easier to turn back, it's just a furniture held there with friction, but if you turn it back in the correct place will the dial be undamaged? I don't know, I have a test dial though, so seems like a good thing to test

Just for my own knowledge, why is the calendar considered an undesirable complication?

Just for my own knowledge, why is the calendar considered and an undesirable complication?
More common. And the dial has lovely symmetry with no date.

And when you have a bunch of watches on rotation you have to reset the date every time you wear it.
Mine with no pesky date.

It’s not

More common. And the dial has lovely symmetry with no date.

However, this is true.

So against my better judgment, and perhaps your advice, I decided to go for it anyway and got the seller to reduce the price to €1100 roughly $2000 New Zealand dollars. The watch arrived today and I have to say that I'm very happy with it. The dial 'damage' between 11-12 o'clock was just a mark on the glass which just brushed away with a bit of polywatch. Everything seems original, branded crystal, silver integral medallion, and thin 10-sided crown. Now it's off to the watchmaker to check the movement and give it a service... but it seems to be running perfectly after a day of wear. Thanks again for all your advice and support I really appreciated it! ❤️

Congrats for your acquisition ! A fair price if the service does not reveal any major mechanical problem.
Markers are indeed in Onyx, and I wasn't aware that these medallions are in silver.
