This is my new bought, I'm impressed by how patina looks, dial is almost golden, no photos can show how it real looks, all original, matching numbers, what do you think?

The patina is rather even and not distracting, decently sharp case, non-luminous dial and hands which is always preferable imo than having to deal with flaking tritium, the 35.5mm larger hidden crown cases are among my favorite Constellations.

by the way, this is ref 168.004 i saw that they can have totally hidden crown, i have 168.004 pie pan gold cap where crown is at the same level as case, this one is taller, but from back looks like it fits perfectly and I also can easily find another examples of pie pans in jumbo case with this exact crown, was there few types? It doesnt look like anything in that watch was replaced, mechanism, glass etc so I dont have a reason to think that this is a replacement, but it's better to ask more experienced 😀

First of all - congratulations on your new watch.
The case is indeed sharp.

The original crown for a 168.004 is almost entirely hidden.
IIRC Crowns were replaced as standard in a service.
The original crowns are no longer available.

There are two types of replacement crown ( shared with the 168.010)
1. The knurled cylindrical shape.
2. The knurled domed shape.
Both stick out from the mid case.

You appear to have the second type.

It is possible a previous owner had it replaced at service because the originals are damned near impossible to use.

Pic of original for reference

p.s.
If you were referring to hidden crown Constellations as ‘jumbo’ this is a misleading term used by nefarious dealers.
They are very slightly larger diameter than a dogleg or lyre lug but the term ‘jumbo’ is reserved for the significantly larger Constellations predominantly sold into Japan and the far east.

Right, I’m using jumbo as a shortcut but I know that it refers to larger model. I know how original crown for 168.004 looks like because I have other gold cap as mentioned and crown totally on the same level. So I was assuming maybe there was another type but I was considering that this is replacement crown, not so rarely seen when I was searching for 168.004. Thanks for very professional feedback, I’m very happy with the watch, this is the most beautiful patina I ever owned and the case seems to be not polished at all, caseback is also very sharp as well as lugs.

You’re welcome.

In which case, I think we’re due some more pics of your watch!

Please take a look, light is weak as it’s almost evening here. And the watch is dirty, it’s before any cleaning, I bought it today in the morning 😀

It certainly warranted the additional photos.
👍

You will notice that the .004s have some quirky variations if you look closely at the bezel you will see a difference to mine.

With a 20,00xx serial yours is an early .004 with and SGR case.
Mine, shown above, is a very late .004 with a 24,27xx serial and with a CB or KB case.
(It also has a 564 engine and a brickwork Observatory)

Yes I also discovered the differencies and was wondering the reason, observatory, one has more flat bezel etc. As per original papers, mine was sold in 64, would have to check based on serial when it was produced 😀

I was going to suggest late ‘63 or ‘64, so the sale date ties in nicely with the production date.
