The only question that was posed what I was quotoed (1450) vs what I expected (850)...missed that. Thanks for pointing out.

I haven't seen any evidence of experience, just some chatter - though Standy's post was useful - No one seems to be willing or able to give any link or personal anecdotes...

Anyway, I am done with this thread. The opinions of thhe internet are way too serious for me.

Even though you are "done with this thread" here is one example for you...

https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-145-006-saga-is-over-finally.38167/#post-440943

There are others, but I'm not going to search them out for you - you can do that yourself.

Yes, those were the questions you didn't answer - in order to answer your question the amount of the discrepancy does make a difference.

You say it's a quote, so did the AD send the watch to Omega for quoting, and they came back with that number, or was it just a number they told you when you asked without submitting the watch for inspection? If it's just a number they gave you when you asked, they are most likely just marking up the costs they will pay from Omega, so the profit on this repair will be good for the AD. If they sent the watch away to be looked at, then clearly they are doing more than just a regular service...

It might be helpful to understand what they're quoting. I'd imagine they're expecting to replace parts that are not part of the standard overhaul. As I understand it, the overhaul will include some basic items like mainspring, maybe pushers and crown, but other parts like dial, hands, bracelet often get added and those are additional cost. Omega should give you a written estimate of what they're going to do. Did they provide that?

Don't mean to state the obvious but just go to a trusted watch master.. won't take 6 months and it'll be cheaper.

@Steve88M3

That quoted price is inclusive of all parts for a restoration of the watch movement only. They will very likely insist on a redial, for which they quoted me $170, replacement of bracelet bits/buckle/crystal is also extra. They may also have quoted you under "special" since the watch has never been sent back to the factory after it was sold. The only way to find out is to ask them for a breakdown.

When i started collecting watches, 1 of the first watches i bought was a longines. The crown & stem came out after a month & i didn't know where to go. Other collectors i met were not very helpful, i turned to google & found the swatch group site.

In desperation, i sent the watch to them, thinking that this was a watch i would keep. I had to pay $50 to courier the watch to Bienne for an assessment before they would quote me. I'd learned enough by then to insist that i did not want the case polished nor the dial replaced or redialled, everything else was fine. It took almost 2 weeks of emails & pleading, yes, pleading before they agreed. Then followed by another round of emails requesting that removed parts be returned to me. To which they finally said no guarantees but they would try.

Wouldn't you know it? A few months later, they called me up to say the factory had damaged the dial while removing it & they would do the redialling for free.

I rejected their offer, i think they still owe me a redialling. But here's the thing.

For everyone who has ever considered sending their watches back to the factory, in spite of the steep prices ( the "restoration"cost almost 3 x what i paid for the watch) It is because we like the watch too much & want to see it restored to factory specs/great working condition but;
1. Have no one else/Don't know who to send it to/had no help.
2. Don't know any better. (Hence we're on this forum, so lets not get stroppy with each other, we were all newbies once. I don't know about you guys, but i see enough A** Holes at work & on social media insisting that their point of view is correct, "shouting" & generally being rude )

I sent it to the factory because i wanted the best for that watch, I didn't know or trust any local watchmakers then & i had visions of a bearded old master at the factory servicing mine. In reality, they have an army of young technicians that are still learning on the job.

Funny thing is, the strap broke not too long ago & the watch fell to the ground, and it stopped working 😲

PM me, i know a few local watchmakers who can service that watch.

@Steve88M3 It's interesting that the AD in Singapore could give you a quote...the last time I visited the swatch service centre in Singapore they said that they would send vintage Omegas to Bienne and only after the service centre Bienne had looked into it would they give me the actual quote. Meanwhile, I would have to pay a non-refundable SGD100 deposit. Granted that was a few years ago, so things may have changed since then.

If you're based in Singapore and would like to know of any local watchmakers who should be able to do the job, feel free to pm me.

Yeah, i thought this was the usual scenario too. Anyway, the poor guy seems to have had his ego hurt.
