Originality of Omega Buckle

Hi everyone, hope me and other OF pals can count on your help with the following matter:

Other two OF members and myself got in contact with a seller of spare parts, bracelets and buckles. He has offered some buckles like this one:

Instantly we thought that would be counterfeit, but a close look on the back of the buckle reveals this clear MG logo, like shown in the famous Buckle thread. The profile of the buckles is also very similar.

Here some shots of the one in the buckle thread

A yet closer look shows that there is a gap between the Omega logo and the end of the buckle.

At first we thought that would be enough information to make the purchase safe but then I recalled I had an almost identical buckle that came with a watch I once purchased. Not only do they look the same, they have nearly identical inscriptions in the back. And this one I know for sure it is wrong.

Is my suspicion of this being a counterfeit correct? Or is this a real one?

Best,

Rudi

I got burned by these when I was first looking for buckles. They look like the cheap Chinese fakes that have been going around for a while, they have the same one word "acierinox" and MG logo. The one I got burned by was even "gold plated" even though it had the words "acierinox" (stainless steel).

Thin spring bars are a first clue to a fake (Vintage have chunky spring bars). The tang looks flat and of poor quality, omega logo doesn't have fine edge, it looks like it's melted a bit.

Thank you guys! I think it is safe to say my assumptions were correct 👍

“Acier Inox” should be two words, not one.

Sometimes a “.” after Inox, sometimes not.

Gold plated buckles should not have Acier Inox markings at all. Should be “Plaque G”.

That should knock out 90% of the fakes.

Thanks Evan, I also realised it recently. I bought this one and it does check all the boxes and it does feel/look original.

fake, over the years, finding little worn buckles of a certain vintage date is difficult. I was also looking for a 50s buckle older than yours, I just bought this one I think it is original but the gold plate is worn.

I have to disagree with you. You said yourself, it is difficult. It does not mean impossible.

This last one I posted is not a 50s one for sure but it matches the one posted in the buckle thread 100%.

Hey, if we can get entire cases replated, surely getting a buckle replated isn't that big of a deal?

I have done it. Changed a yellow gold plated buckle to a pink gold one.

Easier and much cheaper to do than a watch case.

Since Omega is selling the stainless reproduction of the raised-symbol buckle, while new it's certainly not a fake!

Replica, not an Omega product.

Hallmarked for 18K and yet it looks like plating is wearing out.

I would run away from this one.
