About to pull the trigger on this seamaster just want to run it by the brains trust for an evaluation.

1966 seamaster automatic cal565 ref 166009.

The watch needs a service and the bracelet is stretched on the bottom end but it’s going very cheap and I know the seller. He has been pretty good thus far.

Well, depending on the price, I’d like it.

It looks to me like it’s had a polish but that wouldn’t put me off.

For comparison purposes this is my 1968 166.010, also with a 565 movement.

Original crystal too.
Price is good too as he is a friend. It might have had a polish but the edges still have their bevel and the seamaster on the back is still crisp.

Will likely need a proper service, including a new rotor pinion - it's been rubbing on the inside of the case back.

I will most likely buy it. It seems to be all original and not anything dodgey. In regards to the service, it’s going to go straight to the watchmaker for a full service. I haven’t touched automatic movements yet and have only played with mechanical wind. I know it’s just an auto module on the back but I would want to play with a cheaper watch for my first.

That bracelet has non-Omega parts in it and it's been overbuffed. The watch itself looks ok. New bracelet is $450 from Omega.

I’ll factor that in. Thank you. I was going to wear it in a strap.

Is it me, or is there one bracelet on the 12 side and a different bracelet on the 6?

Perhaps the photo of the movement is deceptive, but the bridge with the 24 jewels marking also looks to be gold-plated like the rotor, whereas the original movement has the the copper-colored plating, so both may have been replaced. Again, not necessarily a major issue, just something to note, that the watch has been repaired in this way.

I will factor these things into the price. Bottom line, this is going to be my daily beater. I don’t plan on coddling it, at the same time I don’t plan on beating the crap out of it either. It’s my watch for work daily. I am a manager so it shouldn’t get smashed around.

I am well aware that the bracelet isn’t original or at least half isn’t. As I mentioned I’m not fussed, I plan on either wearing it on a strap or swapping out the other half with an identical aftermarket and wearing it as such. I’m not buying this piece as a collector, I’m buying it to use as a seamaster was intended. Town seem and country. More the sea and country bit as I have nicer pieces for a night on the town.
