Opinions on this 1500

Hi all,

I'm admittedly a bit out of my depth here looking at rolexes, but I'm looking for a watch as a gift for my girlfriend, and this 1500 caught my eye. At 34mm I figure it should be fine for her (she's worn my 35mm old seamaster before no problem) and it certainly fits her style, but I was hoping to get the forum's collective opinion of this example, and a recommendation on price.

The case and dial look pretty clean, with the exception of the one soft mark on the left-hand side of the case, but it doesn't look particularly bad. No movement shot yet but I'm asking for it. Also really like that it has the dauphine hands.

What do you think? Go for it or keep looking? What would you pay?

Thanks!

Despite a general aversion to post 1940s Rolex, I'm a fan. The simple dial, elegant hands, and brushed lugs all look great. I also like the hue of the date wheel and the somewhat whimsical - DATE - text. Interested to hear what the more seasoned think about the condition and value...

Although I don't know much about Rolex so I don't have much to add in terms of whether you should go for it or not, it's definitely a nice, simple looking watch.

Hard to go wrong with that watch. Very handsome. You could check eBay for pricing.

Just got the movement shot in from the seller.

It's at least re-assuring that the watch seems to be well liked on here, and re-affirms my interest in it.

Just a bit lost on price, as I haven't seen many gold 1500s in my searching.

Alright, screw it.

I'll just start negotiations based on other similar-ish ones I've seen.

Early '60s 1500, quite nice! Ask for photos between the lugs for the SN and model number. Might be worth in the 2-3000 range I guess, very hard to say as the demand for these is not that great. 14 or 18K?

18k. Seller is stuck at 3k euro +shipping.

Alright, pulling the trigger. Thanks guys for all the input. Seller wouldn't move much on price but given how good it looks and that it's a gift anyway (not particularly concerned with resale value), I don't mind possibly slightly overpaying.

The hard part is going to be not wearing it myself and ending up claiming it as my own in the month between now and her birthday.

WIll post pics when it gets here.
